It is still dark when you step up the cable car. Slowly the sky brightens, the outlines of the mountain peaks are just visible, and by the time you arrive at 3500 meters, breakfast is waiting for you in the world's highest revolving restaurant, the Allalin, with a 360-degree view of the entire mountain range. Think fresh rolls, cheese, cold cuts, eggs, fresh fruit, and hot coffee to warm your fingers. Then you are the first to make tracks in the fresh, perfectly groomed snow. The slope is yours!

Seeing the Fee Glacier up close is one of those things you simply have to do at least once. On the Glacier Experience Tour, you literally walk on it, secured to the rope of an experienced mountain guide, with snowshoes on your feet and a climbing harness around your waist. You pass glacier crevasses and gigantic ice formations, climb up to the Panoramaplatz—the highest point with a view you won't find anywhere else in Saas Fee—and then descend back into the valley. The tour takes four to five hours and is possible in both summer and winter. For photographers, this is truly a dream.

Cheese fondue in a gondola? In Saas-Fee, it is possible. You board at 18:30 at the Spielboden mountain station for an hour of swaying above the illuminated villages of the Saas Valley, with a pot of Swiss cheese fondue in front of you, a glass of wine or tea, and a schnapps to finish. There is a family gondola with toys for the little ones and a candlelight gondola for two; the most romantic and delicious EVER.

On the slopes by day, on the sled at night; in Saas-Fee, the fun is far from over when the sun goes down. The lift goes up to the Hannig, you grab a headlamp and a sled, and toboggan six kilometers down through the moonlit winter landscape—a kind of dream flight, but in real lifeIn Saas-Grund, you can even go down an eleven-kilometer-long illuminated toboggan run, straight through snowy forests and small hamlets.

Capra is Latin for mountain goat, the unofficial mascot of the Valais. The Capra is intimate, personal, and warm, without a hint of pretension, even though this hotel has earned five stars. All suites have a balcony with views of the surrounding mountain peaks, and in the 700m² spa, in addition to an outdoor and indoor pool and steam bath, you will find a salt room with a wall of real rock salt blocks – good for the respiratory system, they say, and we are happy to believe that at this altitude. The Brasserie 1809 restaurant has 15 Gault Millau points, but the real secret lies in the wine cellar: The Capra focuses heavily on wines from the Valais, Switzerland's most important wine region with the highest vineyards in Europe. On Thursday evenings, you can join the chef’s table in the wine cellar for a five-course menu. In winter, reserve a table there for Astrid's Fondue. You would almost forget that you can also ski here – the ski lifts are a two-minute walk away.

The Goat

In the autumn of 1984, George Michael arrived in Saas-Fee with his crew to film the music video of Last Christmas to film and the entire crew slept at the Walliserhof. The hotel celebrates that history today with a George Michael. signature menu, a special cocktail and a reality scavenger hunt through the hotel. But the Walliserhof is more than the setting for Wham!, It is the largest wellness hotel in Saas-Fee, with 72 rooms, the largest spa in the village, and three restaurants, including the refined Cäsar Ritz. Centrally located in the village, a five-minute walk from the ski lifts.

Saas-Almagell is the smallest and quietest village in the Saas Valley. The family hotel Kristall-Saphir has been there for years and is exactly what you would expect from such a place: warm, personal, and built of wood and stone. Close the door behind you and you are right in the middle of the mountains, and those who look closely will return in the evening with gemstones in their pockets. The trout on your plate in the evening comes straight from the hotel's own pond, and coffee and homemade cake are ready every afternoon. The free bus takes you to the Saas-Fee cable cars in fifteen minutes.

Crystal Saphir

In January 2025, the Revier Mountain Lodge opened its doors in the center of Saas-Fee and has since become the liveliest spot in the village. The compact rooms are fully paneled in wood and feature large windows all around with views of the surrounding mountains. There is no traditional reception; you check in via your phone and receive your room number via text message. You spend the evening in the Fox House bar with over 30 beers, good gins, and live music or a DJ. At the restaurant, you can enjoy Mediterranean dishes from an open grill.
