Bar Fisk Amsterdam
In the past... Well, a while ago, you only came to the Eerste Sweelinckstraat in the Amsterdamse Pijp for the Aussies from Little Collins. Now you can still go there with peace of mind, I would say, but be sure to look a bit further at the Israeli people who have their Bar Fisk Amsterdam opened. A restaurant like we never had before in Amsterdam.
First of all, the Israeli thing: that is not a gimmick or a sales tool. No, the people who run the business all come from the country of the best fresh fish and the most deliciously prepared vegetables (although I would like to have a piece of meat or fish, De Man and I ate the most delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes in Tel Aviv ever, a cuisine the city is known for) and are on a mission to give the cuisine of their homeland the appreciation and recognition it deserves. Okay, and as a sales trick, they also threw in the term 'Barcelona'. Because more famous to the ears of the average Dutchman (unknown means unloved, blah blah blah). Actually, the latter is not necessary: Bar Fisk brings exactly that Israeli coziness and delicacy to De Pijp that the young owners had in mind. The best places in the place are at the bar, where the cocktail shaker is within easy reach on the left, and the very exciting cooking is being done on the right (vlamdepan-galore), right in front of you.
If we can give you a tip, listen especially to the waiting staff: the menu is small and they are proud of every dish on it, but the Bar Fisk team is happy to recommend typical Israeli dishes that you can be honest about. honestly – might not have gone for it. Shame. Then you would simply miss the ray (!), and even worse: the red mullet. The latter is buttery soft and the lentils next to it are firm and sharp-sweet in taste. At. Tasty. The shell fish bowl we also did (order about 5/6 dishes for two, that's perfect), a kind of seafood soup in the liquid of green curry – NOM. Oh yes, start with oysters, unlike usual with our own 'Bar Fisk lemon dressing'. Almost forgot: the fried sardines with chili vinaigrette were also just right and perfect during a summer evening on the also perfect small terrace. Summer in the City, all year long. Bar Fisk
