Little Collins, Amsterdam (South)

Little Collins is the name of a street in Melbourne full of first-class restaurants and great bars. And from a restaurant and bar in the Amsterdam Pijp, run by friendly Ozzies. It's a tribute to them home city Melbourne and everything they like to eat and drink. If you think of Australia and think of gigantic barbecues, that is not what the cuisine is like Little Collins looks like. They don't serve mega slabs of meat, but simple dishes with pure flavors. That's what the place looks like: no fuss, just a simple interior with high wooden tables, cabinets full of wine and a tip-top terrace in front of the door.

On Mondays Little Collins is open for brunchThe door remains closed on Tuesdays and the rest of the week you can go there for brunch and dinner. The brunch menu is fantastic for those who love sandwiches and sandwiches. We mention: the sweet potato waffle with fennel sausage, chorizo, goat cheese cream and roasted peppers, and the grilled haloumi with roasted fennel, spiced carrot, roasted grapes and dukkah. That's something different than a ham and cheese sandwich.

The menu looks just as surprising in the evening. Be there small dishes Served to share, so you can try quite a few. Such as the roasted cauliflower with freekeh, parsley, pine nuts and a lemon dressing. Delicious in all its simplicity. The sticky duck and pork belly salad, with beans, cucumber, apple and chili pepper is just as delicious. And there is a lot more on the menu, divided between vegetarian, fish and meat. For dessert, there is a kind of deconstructed lemon meringue pie: a jar of lemon curd with meringue pieces, crumbs, goat cheese cream and berries. Highly recommended.

For those who just want to pop into Little Collins for a drink, that is very possible. Sit down on a bar stool and try one of the four Bloody Marys or a Bellini with fresh rhubarb. Oh yes, we forgot to mention: the house wine is also excellent. Because they can make wine in Australia. Just like cooking, that is. Little Collins
