Bartine The Hague

What's in a name? BARTINE couldn't do much wrong in advance, of course, but owners Casper and Nils more than make it happen with their new beautiful place on the Herengracht in The Haag. Beautiful building, with lots of plants inside and not too much fuss in terms of interior. At Bartine you simply sit down for the menu and the music. What will you find on that menu? Slightly different dishes than standard elsewhere on the menu. Not a simple avocado toast, but brioche toast with celeriac cream, pulled confit de canard, a soft-boiled egg with sauerkraut and some fresh salad with apple on the side. Or toast with homemade ricotta and roasted beetroot, a cup of carrot soup with yoghurt and sumac (yes, we had to google too) or toast with green bean cream, fried mushrooms, black radish (we'll spare you the Google action: a kind of black radish) and a soft-boiled egg on top.

And it all looks beautiful on your plate. You can also have breakfast, with Bircher muesli (the term for Overnight Oats before it became hip) with yoghurt, a poached pear and pistachios. Or have a piece of almond, saffron, orange cake with your coffee (or with your turmeric latte with almond milk and other healthy yellow herbs).

And that's not all that is a bit alternative about Bartine: one of the owners plays in a band and therefore, together with his co-owner, attaches great importance to the playlist that you hear in the background. Relaxed tunes (we hear psychedelic surf rock and a bit of jazz), and in the future Bartine will hopefully accommodate all kinds of bands on their stage. In short, a musical and atmospheric place with a top menu. We are fans.
