You can spend the night on Isla Holbox (Mexico) here:
Mexico, oh Mexico! A lot of hearts are going that way from Barts Boekje. Besides the fact that we have been at home in Tulum for quite a few winters (read it all here) it was now also high time for the beautiful Holbox Island (Quintana Roo), on the border of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Only about 1.500 people live here and if you are still looking for paradise; we found it for you. r. You can spend the night on Isla Holbox (Mexico) here:
White beaches, blue sea (including hammocks in the sea), palm trees, a fantastic sunset... Yes, that picture. Even more beautiful in May because of the flamingos and in June (if Holbox is your destination this month) even better because you can swim with whale sharks.
There is something to do every day in the small center and the people are sweet and relaxed. If you take some last bit of stress from home with you, it will disappear here like snow in the sun (há). Cars are not allowed on the island, the only means of transport - besides bicycles - are golf carts. It's fun too.
You can sleep on the island in and around the center, or in one of the hotels with a sea view. If you want to do the latter and really go for it; then book an extra night Ser Casasandra. You can be picked up from the ferry with a golf cart; about 10 minutes later you are on the other side of the island. As if in a cozy (too beautiful!) village, the various huts are on stilts next to each other and you reach the different rooms via stairs. They are all beautiful; the shower is made of a shell (we want it for home) and the beds are grand and soft. If you have a room with a view of the sea, you are extra lucky. With an even more beautiful entrance you walk under the bamboo, through the restaurant, to the swimming pool. You can also book massages here or take a yoga class in the morning.
Beach over pool? We think so. Then walk to the other side; where the private beach of Ser Casasandra is located. Did we mention it was luxurious? There is also a bar, hammocks, sun beds or mattresses under the shade of the bamboo. You can also have lunch, dinner or drinks here, there are almost more staff than there are holidaymakers.
If you are with a larger group, then... Casa Lou an absolute must. This Airbnb can be found just outside the center, a 5-minute bike ride.
With a private swimming pool, a terrace with barbecue and bicycles ready for use. The Concierge, is incredibly helpful and sweet and lives next to the house. You can contact her for any questions. Plus she has the best tips for nice places to eat and more.
Casa Lou has 3 bedrooms, which can sleep 8 people in total. The master bedroom has a large private terrace and private bathroom (with hot tub!). In the spacious kitchen you can cook almost eight people at the same time and in the living room you can curl up on the couch with Netflix (but, let's be honest - we do Netflix again at home). Casa Lou is fully equipped; you do books here.

Casa Catba has been open for a number of years and the story behind it is probably a dream of many. This French couple (Colette & Pierre-Marie) decided during their own holiday on Isla Holbox that they did not want to return to their busy lives. They fell in love with the island, quit their corporate jobs and bought –in a split second– an outdated hotel building. After months of intensive work (everything has been tackled) this became Casa Catba. And when you walk in here, it feels like you're walking into a lifelike page of a Vogue Linving walks in. Colette did the interior design all by herself and to say she has a good feeling for it is putting it mildly. With unique finds from all over the world, the whole thing feels a bit like a mix between Ibiza and Bali (stylish, minimalist bohemian chic. Do you have it?) Calm natural colors, vintage furniture and lots of art on the walls.
Ho wait, before you book. We get it: you can already see yourself lying on the beach with the cocktail, but... first things first: vassure. It may sound redundant and very lame, but do it! Because risks are just around the corner. All that complicated fixt OOM Insurances for you. Two options:
Those kids are nice, but not always and everywhere. Especially if you want a little peace and quiet in the tent (after all, also your holiday). Casa Catba (mentioned above) is adults only, but two other great options are as follows:
- Holbox Casa Punta Coco: with a private beach, sleek interior and various activities in the area (windsurfing, cycling and fishing), you can really relax.
- El Corazon Boutique Hotel: Mexico, as you expect from Mexico. Luxurious rooms, an eye for detail and super relaxed.
You can hardly sit closer to the beach and you can hardly get more romantic than it Palapas del Sol. Del Sol's rooms are housed in six beach huts with local palapa architecture and palm-leaf roofs. All houses with private terrace and hammock in the room.
Villas Caracol is located on the beach of Playa Norte, on the north coast of the island. Villas Caracol has fifteen rooms with all the trimmings, right on the beach.
Casa Peregrino Holbox is not huge with only three rooms. Well cared for with a modern style. A sea view and your holiday is complete.
