Barts Book Club: Put on your headphones and listen. These are (we think) the best audiobooks

What has the lockdown contributed to in recent years? Our latest addiction: audio books.

From bestsellers to classics, suspense, romance, non-fiction and children's books in Dutch and English. Audiobooks from, for example, Storytel got you covered. Now that 2020 and 2021 are behind us and Covid has almost left us, or well, no longer has such a grip on us, we are looking ahead again: these are our favorite audio books in 2022.

Okay, just a few English books for you inner-yourself. Like Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and into Your Life by Gary John Bishop. 'Joining the ranks of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, You Are a Badass, and F*ck Feelings comes this refreshing, BS-free, self-empowerment guide that offers an honest, no-nonsense, tough-love approach to help you move past self-imposed limitations'. Now you again.

The Noble Art of Not Giving a Fuck it's also on there, nice in your native language - nice as a starter.

What I Know for Sure by Oprah Winfrey who also reads her own books (she has more, The Wisdom of Sundays is also great!). That is also one of the reasons why we are fans: beautiful voice that immediately calms you down.

Some Storytel highlights:

Some Storytel highlights:

  • The most popular book at the moment is 'Putin's Russia: A lecture on the historical developments of Russia and Ukraine.' This doesn't really come as a surprise, I think this is all on our minds at the moment.
  • This is closely followed in the top 10 most popular books by the audio book 'Worth the sin' by Dutch writer Simone van der Vlught. A literary thriller, worth a try for all lovers of blood-curdling stories among us.

  • With almost five (four and three quarters) stars, third place goes to 'Sweet creature – Surviving on the ramparts, captive with the nuns.' Based on a true story.

  • The winner of the Storytel awards 2021 is Familieopstelling by Kluun, who narrated his book himself, partly in Tilburgish! Recommended for everyone people in the south of the country.

The most popular genres van 2022 (so far) are:

  1. Voltage:
  2. true event
  3. Literature

So we're in the mood of its own. for the more serious books, that may not be surprising since we live in exciting times. Fortunately, there are also plenty of books that make you forget all the misery for a while and that you can dream away with, if you feel the need to do so every now and then. Also nice, there is more than enough choice for the small stuff. Handy, right, on the couch together, with a mini book and you yourself a book. Top!
