Best of Milan

April 4, 2017 = the start of Salone del Mobile Milano 2017. In addition to the fashion weeks twice a year, the design fair is the reason to visit the Italian city: inspiration everywhere. The fair attracts smart (design/fashion) people from far and wide, and they look great, even if you ignore the fair and seek solace on a terrace or three. Hence, the best of Milan

Soulgreen Italia
Nice, hip vegan spot in Milan? Voila, Soulgreen Italia is your man. plant based on the menu + plants throughout the business + noticeably un-Italian friendly staff = success guaranteed. Pizzale Principe's Clotilde, 20124 Milano, Soulgreen Italia

Fondazione Prada/Bar Luce
Anyone in Milan should definitely not miss Bar Luce. The new glossy sixties café, designed by none other than director and actor Wes Anderson, can be found in Fondazione Prada, a complex for modern art and culture. A feast for the eyes. The dishes, from pancakes to cakes, from the café-restaurant are quite expensive, but just a cup of coffee (and a stroll around) is fine: you won't be the only one. Or just sneak to the toilet, even that is crazy. Read more: Bar Luce

Barts Booklet - Orsonero Coffee

Orsonero Coffee
This Scandinavian-looking coffee shop has only just opened and is already the favorite of many. The family business (when in Italy...) serves special coffees in the Porta Venezia district. The family likes an experiment from time to time and therefore changes the menu regularly, reason enough to come back regularly. Tea is also available, as are freshly baked rolls, pastries and cookies. Via Broggi 15Orsonero Coffee

Barts-Boekje-marghe

Marghe Pizza
Shot in front of open goal: Milan = Italy and Italy = pizza. Bam. Can't get any spelled in between. One of the best no-fuzz addresses for - according to the Italians - the best pizza in town is Marghe. The place is very Italian, rough and cool, and the same goes for the pizza bakers. Via Cadore 26, Margin

Fish Bar
Really leaves nothing to guess at all. Read more: Via Montebello, 7 - 20121 Milano, Fish Bar

Barts Booklet - La Fioreria

The Florist
Because the plant shop does so well on your Instagram feed... Viale Brenta 11, The Florist

El Porteno
For the carnivores, a 'piece' of Argentina in Milan. Read more: El Porteno

Barts Booklet - Pavé Break

Pave Break
Pavé was already a household name in the city, and now the restaurant has a younger brother: Break. Not far from Porta Romana Corso it is a great place for breakfast and a quick snack. Everything tasty. Via della Commedia 25, Pavé-Break

MOM Milano Amore Mio
The new MAM is definitely your new must-must-must address in Milan. Read all about it: MOM Milano Amore Mio

Barts Booklet - taglioCutting
The friendly Taglio is good for everything from your filter coffee (from Portland's Stumptown, if you are tired of Italian espresso) to the aperitivo. Via Vigevano 10, Cutting

Low Bar
If you want to make it a night job, go to the pink cocktail and champagne bar Bar Bosso. The historic bar is a Milan institution to say the least and gained fame thanks to their 'signature cocktail', the A historic cocktail bar that has become a true Milanese institution over the years, Bar Basso is best known for its signature cocktail Negroni sbagliato, here conceived and presented in enormous scenographic glasses with 6cm x 8cm hand-cut ice cubes inside. Via Plinio 39, Bar Bosso

Barts Booklet - Giacomo Caffè

Giacomo Caffe
We've said it before and will say it again here: there is little to nothing better than a good (art deco) classic. If you're near the Duomo (and you will be at some point), pop into the Giacomo Caffee at Palazzo Reale. That's one of those a blast from the past. The literary café is perfect for a coffee, but dining is also possible. Moreover, there is plenty to do for vegetarians. Dome square 12Giacomo Caffe

Barts Booklet - 1930

1930
For 20s vibes in Milan, go to xxx during the day, but when it's time for a cocktail, head into the speakeasy called 1930. The case does what you expect it to do. Vibrant? Meh. Nice and tasty and good for a nice catch up? Yes. The store is also really well hidden, but ask around in the area and you will find it. Via Pasquale sottocorno 19, 1930 Milan

Canteen Milano
It's a bit crazy, going to a Mexican when you're the foodie country on earth... But hey, you can just fancy tequila and tacos, right? And then you go to Canteen Milano where exactly that is served at a spacious, colorful bar and in a fantastic courtyard. If you want to go, keep in mind that you can't have everything: the courtyard is great, the vibes are happy but not the tacos best ever (because Italians) and as soon as possible, the music gets louder and there is dancing and banter (because Italians). Via Archimedes 10, Canteen Milano

Barts-Boekje- sorbilloGino Sorbillo Lievito Madre
Also literally a stone's throw from the Duomo, you can eat the best pizza at this rather unattractive place. Or at least... Unattractive, that's not entirely true. Absolute care has been taken in the light white and blue case, but it still seems like an impersonal chain. And we usually skip that. Don't. The pizza is affordable, incredibly tasty and - surprise - you sit among the Italians. A good sign. Largo Corsia dei Servi 11, Sorbillo
