Portland's best coffee and food trucks

One of the nicest cities in America? Portland! Yes. You don't expect it, but really: GO. Especially in the summer months, when Portland takes to the streets en masse, eating bowls of food from the countless food trucks in front of them. Or especially in the winter months (the area around Portland, the state of Oregon, is beautiful and has everything from sea to mountains, trust us). Oh, and Oregon's wine regions are vast and beautiful. Mainly Winderlea Chardonnay is phenomenal.

Well, actually it is such a destination forever, but mainly because there is one hard cliché about Portland that is oh so very true: nowhere in the world are coffee, donuts (more on that later) and food trucks taken as seriously as in Portland. But really. Once more: trust us. It's fantastic.

With dot best coffee and Portland's best food trucks at a glance, tried and tested, Don't mention it:

COFFEE

Barts-Boekje-tstumptown

Stumptown Coffee Roasters
A household name and you will find the coffee makers throughout Portland, although the location in the Ace Hotel (of course we want to say) is especially not to be missed. Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Coava Coffee Brew Bar
One of Portland's best-known coffees, Coava, has two locations in the city. Coava Coffee

Sterling Coffee Roasters
The James Bond of coffees. Chic than most hipster style bars, sleek even. Your espresso comes in a glass and in the evening the bar is there for wine. Sterling

Barts Boekje barista

Barista
Billy Wilson is a coffee legend in the Portland area (didn't we say coffee is taken seriously?). The man now has five Barista cafés, of which the location in Nob Hill is the most beautiful: lush lush lush. On the roaster beans from Heart and Coava, among others, and behind the bearer 9 of the 10 x Mr. Wilson himself. Barista

Nossa Familia Coffee
'Our family' in Portuguese is run by a Brazilian whose family has been roasting coffee since 1890. Connoisseurs. Nossa Familia Coffee

Courier Coffee
Don't go here if you want to be pampered: 9 times out of 10 the barista is too busy, including for you, making coffee and getting the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies from the oven. You get your latte in a jam jar and everything is delicious, although the cappuccino with cinnamon is famous. Courier Coffee

Barts-Boekje-tov

Tōv
One of Portland's newest additions to the already busy coffee scene - so there's still room. The Egyptian coffee house is located in a double-decker bus just outside the city center and serves Turkish coffee, among other things. Nice Bollywood atmosphere. Fun and definitely worth the detour (Portland is done by bike! It's just like Amsterdam). tov

Never Coffee Lab
The Belmont neighborhood is "going on," you might say. And the new Never Coffee Lab is a colorful gem in the area. Matisse meets coffee. Never Coffee Lab

Upper Left Roasters
One of the city's most beautiful open spaces is hidden among the bike paths of Ladd's Addition. Upper Left Roasters

Barts-Boekje case study

Case Study Alberta
Alberta is where you'll find Portland's creative scene (that is, even more creative as the city of creativity seems to be exploding). Case Study is fantastic, like going back in time. By the way, there are a total of 3 Case Studies in Portland. Case Study Alberta

FOOD TRUCKS

Barts-Boekje-pie spot

gluttony
In a city where brunch and burgers have become almost a religion (Portland also takes brunch Very Seriously: on Sundays there is a line out the door for every hot brunch spot), it's great when, as a newcomer, you discover the love of win over the city. Gluton did it and is your man for treats from early morning until evening. Try the Biz Markie breakfast sandwich with homemade sausage, or the English muffin with egg. Later in the day, the Double Impact Burger is enough reason to visit Gluttony. Glottony

Love Belizean
This food truck is addictive! Who, oh who, brings the slow-cooked spicy chicken with rice and beans and a salad with onion salsa and hot sauce to the Netherlands? LoveBelizean

Barts-Boekje-pine street

Pine Street Market
Although the city, and every corner of the city, is littered with food stalls, sometimes as a collection, sometimes as an individual, an indoor food hall as we now have in New York, Barcelona, Amsterdam and so on, could not be missing. Pine Steet Market is Portland's answer. The market in a corner building on the edge of Old Town is exactly what you expect: a large space with industrial looks and a collection of hip-looking food stalls, Pine Street

The Whole Bowl
The people of this food truck make simple bowls with rice, beans, salsa, cheese, lemon and their world famous Tali Sauce. Many have attempted to recreate the sauce, but no one has ever succeeded. The Whole Bowl

Tight Tacos
In any case, taco lovers can have fun in Portland, but the newest sales stand with perhaps the tastiest tacos in the city is located in the middle of the Sunny Side neighborhood. The undersigned spent an extensive bike ride from Old Town to this neighborhood with three tacos from Tight Taco as a reward – best choice ever. Tight Tacos

Jouk Li Jou
A new food truck selling delicious Haitian food. A trend on the West Coast anyway; Haitian dishes. Delicious, summery and healthy. Jouk Li Jou

Barts-Boekje-Kim Jong Grillin

Kim Jong Grillin'
Highly recommended: the bi bim bap is not to be missed. On the side may the beer of Ninkasi Total Dominion IPA, brewed in Portland. Kim Jong Grillin'

Pastrami Zombie
Near the airport - only the lonely further, but highly recommended if you are in the area: soul-satisfying pastrami, and that too on top of a burger.

Arlo's Fish and Chips
Fish & chips. Super tasty. In the St Johns district, you may not come across it just like that, although the quiet (residential) area is worth a cycling tour. Arlos

Barts-Boekje-bao bao

Bao Bao
The Boa bun is also a hit in Portland and you can find them in more places, with Bao Bao being the best place. There's pork bus, chicken curry and wild mushrooms, all $3 a pop. Bao Bao

Carter's Cart
Portland has a gigantic park on the edge of the city, Forest Park, where you definitely want to go. In this park there is a Carter couple (meet the Carters, how nice) with their BBQ food truck. Everything fresh, everything delicious - perfect for a picnic in the park. Carter's Cart

Dinner Bell BBQ
Prefer a central barbecue joint? There is also: Dinner Bell BBQ. The man behind the grill is from Alabama and if they know how to barbecue somewhere... Apart from the pulled pork sandwich and the pork ribs, the menu changes every day. Dinner Bell BBQ

Barts Boekje party

Feast PDX
A large food festival with only the best entrepreneurs. It's party time again in Portland from September 14 to 17, so you can hurry! Feast PDX

Mahi Taco
Hawaii meets Mexico, a match made in heaven! At Mahi Taco mainly fish bags, but different from the well-known fried Baja-style tacos. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Absolutely not. We love. But this grilled variant is so healthy and finger-licking good. There's also a mahi-mahi, chicken, pork and avocado taco.

Oh, and just this: Portland's signature dish?
Totchos, a pile of potato slices that come out of the oven like nachos, including a pile of cheese and onion. You stick it straight on your hips, but it is nice. You can eat it at most authentic restaurants in Portland, but it is also on the menu at the hip Clyde Common, the restaurant of the Ace Hotel in Downtown Portlan.
