Location, location, location

At Seeduyn you can roll straight out of bed onto the beach. No need to lug around beach equipment, parasol or bed - just a few steps and you're there. What is also important: Seeduyn is one of the few detached hotels on the beach in the Netherlands, which provides that real holiday feeling. It looks just like Portugal, provided the sun shines.

What are you doing on Vlieland? Or better said, what are you not doing there? Above all, you come here to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. That laptop remains closed. Vlieland (and actually all Wadden Islands) are perfect for walking. Whether you walk through the dunes, on the beach or through the forest, you are always in the right place. The combination of these three makes for a top walk.

The location of Seeduyn is perfect – yes, we repeat it again – right on the beach. And yet only a 20-minute walk from the Dorpsstraat. In 20 minutes you cross the island to the south side, where the ferry arrives, and you will also find the Dorpstraat. If you go west, you cycle against the Sahara of the North, like the islanders de Vliehors to call. Book a tour through the Vliehors Express, or opt for a Seal Tour, specifically aimed at spotting seals. For such a small island there is plenty to do: playing laser tag in the open air or walking through the fair in the village are also options.

Drink up Beach pavilion 't Badhuys a delicious Vlieland beer, or try the tasting with different beers from the island. An island is of course the perfect place for fresh fish. Start with oysters and a bottle of bubbles, and as a main course a whole sea bass, paella or a beach crab bisque. Do you prefer meat or vegetarian? They also have a dry-aged sirloin steak or a short rib from the barbecue. Grand Café De Brassery, part of the hotel, offers classic dishes such as Beef Wellington and plaice from the bone. For the kids there are fries with a bowl of kibbeling. A nice relaxed atmosphere in the Grand Café.

You have to go for artisanal sandwiches Bakery Westers are. Perfect for taking some sandwiches with you for walks through the forest or dunes. Don't forget to try the Vlielandse thumbpjes, a local delicacy.

In the Dorpstraat you will find several restaurants, such as 't Praethuys, a cozy cafe. Fancy Italian? Trattoria Oliva has fine wines and pizzas. You have to go for pancakes De Lickebaert are the island's pancake house that makes the kids very happy. With the cozy brown pub atmosphere inside, a good terrace in front and a sheltered courtyard. You are always in the right place there – even in the smallest rays of sunshine.
