Attention forest lovers: all the nice forest walks in the Netherlands can be found here
Very simple: when the sun shines, we (most of us) want to go outside, and that's a good thing. The forests are heavily walked and are bursting with people who want to get some fresh air. Great for walking around with your dog or catching up with friends. Perhaps you always do the standard round and that may change. That's why we'll take a look at the best walking routes in the Netherlands to spice up your daily walk in the woods. spice. That's why we have all the handsome ones forest walks in the Netherlands listed for you.
We like the first one: Via NS walks you can find walks that go from station to station, through nature. So no more excuses if your train is canceled, you can do it on your feet! There are several throughout the Netherlands and our favorite is the walk from Gein to Vecht. You will find all NS walks here, see what's available near you.
The next tip is for all the pub hangers among us. Do you love walking but are you still tempted by the terrace and the beers every time? Then we have good news for you. So thought up The Green Buzzard the golden combination: walking with beer! Who wouldn't want that? You can go hiking in the jungle of the Achterhoek and quench your thirst with a drink. Need more gasps and steps? We have!
And then we immediately make a bridge to Treedom. Because the fresh air makes us oh so happy and every now and then we can squeeze our hands so that we can always go into the woods. We sometimes forget that this is not obvious for everyone. Not a bad thing at all, but do you want to give something back to nature? Then you can do that with Treedom. They plant trees in Africa, Latin America and Asia with the aim of making the world greener: lit's green the planet! That is already working well, because Treedom has already planted more than three million trees with the help of its farmers and wants to expand that to ten million in the next three years. We think it's beautiful!
The Netherlands has a number of nature reserves that are perfect for a long walk. With the dog, family, or kids. That's how it is Dwingelderveld National Park in Dwingeloo a nature reserve in the Drenthe area. The Davidsplassen are the ideal place for bird watchers and with a bit of luck you will encounter a shepherd with his flock of sheep during your walk.
A big favorite in the middle of the country should certainly not be missed: The Veluwe. Here too, there are numerous routes to walk and there is enough nature to relax. Our favorite period is when the heather is in bloom, this is in the months of August and September.
And so you have in the south of our country De Meinweg National Park. While our country seems flatter than flat, things are a bit different here. You will find a terraced landscape here. The height differences can be up to 50 meters and there is plenty of wildlife to see. You will hardly believe that you are walking around in our little country, we also have plenty to offer!
It's also nice if you can get a coffee on the go, you can read where that is possible here.
Sleeping on the Veluwe? That's possible! Check here our best addresses.
We weren't done yet! The Netherlands has plenty to offer when it comes to walks. So too Our Monastery Path in Brabant. We know the Brabant atmosphere, but did you also know this path? If you're from Brabant, probably yes, if you're not from Brabant, probably not. And that's completely okay, because that's what we are there for. Our Monastery Path is exactly what you think it is; a walking route past all monasteries in Brabant, because there are many of them in the province. The route is no less than 330 kilometers, passes 50 former monasteries and can be walked in 15 stages, which will keep you busy for a while.
Every year it is exciting to see whether it will succeed again that year: The Elfstedentocht. And things are looking increasingly bad for the future. The earth is getting warmer and it is noticeable. This also has consequences for the Elfstedentocht. Natural ice often only lasts for two days if we are lucky and is almost never thick enough for the entire trip. So we have to be creative and come up with an alternative; discover the Elfstedentocht, but on foot. In Friesland it is now Elfstedenpad from Jutrijp to Stavorente, especially for walkers.
We end with perhaps the most famous hiking trail in the Netherlands: The Pieterpad. This is a path that goes through the whole of the Netherlands. The starting point is in Pieterburen, in the far north of Groningen. From there the 500 kilometer route starts, which can be walked in several stages. You can choose to walk the path in 16 stages or in 38 to finally arrive at the end point at the tip of Maastricht, at the Sint Pietersberg. Of course, you don't have to walk the entire path, you can also choose to walk the part that is near you.
All those walks are of course made possible by all the trees and forests. And we just named Treedom for a while. That's all well and good, but how does that work? Simple. You buy a tree through Treedom, where one of the local farmers from areas where trees and forests are scarce (and therefore most needed) plants a tree on his land. Once this tree is planted, the... digital journeys: after the tree has been planted, you will receive a photo, GPS code and regular updates of the project of which the tree is part. What is unique about Treedom is that you can follow everything online and therefore help the farmers on site to do their work. In this way you support the local farmers who take care of the trees and you also contribute to reducing climate change. A win-win situation because it is good for the tree, the farmers and of course nature. Completely convinced? Then buy your tree quickly and do your part.
