The Gastronout, formerly Bar Bistro Bravour: new 'golden oldie' in Amsterdam East

The Gastronout, formerly Bar Bistro Bravour: new 'golden oldie' in Amsterdam East

We discovered another nice one in 2021 Amsterdam, this time on Dapperstraat in East: Bravery. Call it a restaurant, call it a bar, call it a bistro - or put the last two together as the owners did - and you have a cozy restaurant with refined bistro dishes and a bar that serves good wines and cocktails. Good news, if it weren't for the fact that elsewhere in the Netherlands a business thought their name was a bit too similar to that of the Amsterdam Bravour. Is it difficult for you to go over a long period of time, or focus on the good things in life and switch to another, equally nice name: welcome The Gastronout! New name, old concept - and that's great. And yes, still at Dapperstraat 16 in Amsterdam East. Hi!

In the place where before Visbar Beet sat on the corner of the Dapperstraat, the same men (who are also behind Bar Baarsch in West) opened their De Gastronout. Very good name that covers it all as it is the better gastronomy that the men go for, with small, refined dishes, and a good dose of conviviality (and wine). It's a match.

You can find that conviviality outside on the terrace when the weather is nice and inside all year round. As soon as you enter through the curtains, the first thing you see is the wooden bar with marble top and the nostalgic 40s hanging lamps. Small tables covered with linen on the left and right. Although the store is not located in the nicest part of Amsterdam East, you immediately forget that as soon as you sit down.

The menu consists of French-tinted dishes with a worldly twist. With six starters and six main courses, the menu is not large, which is often a good sign. The same here. Be sure to bring someone with you who wants to share dishes so that you can taste a little bit of everything, because that's what you want! The cauliflower with leek, garlic beurre noissette, green apple and truffle and the zucchini flower in tempura with herb cheese and whey sauce were personal favorites. Don't forget to ask which wine goes best with which dish, because the people at Bravour are happy to explain this in detail. Oh yes, about those cocktails, the Pornstar Martini is made from real passion fruit juice, reduced with vodka. Where else do you get it?
