The best and newest of Steigereiland, IJburg and Zeeburgereiland, Amsterdam

A bit of an Amsterdam canal snob turns up his nose at it... Pfff, Zeeburgereiland, you say?! Where? No way, I never go there. Well, that’s quite a loss for them, isn't it? Because this east side of the city is in full development.

Besides IJburg, there are now plenty of fun new hotspots on Zeeburgereiland, but all kinds of fun things are popping up on Steigereiland, situated in between as well. So off we go; it's more fun than you thought, I promise.

Pina Specialty Coffee (Zeeburgereiland)

Pina Specialty Coffee (Zeeburgereiland)

Hello Pina! A lovely, spacious place by the water on Zeeburgereiland. A true gem if you ask us, with high ceilings and more windows than you dared to dream of.

At Pina, they are good at COFFEE. Specialty coffees, but this is also the place for your matcha. Additionally, you can sit here comfortably with your laptop to make your workday a 10/10. For lunch, you can choose from the lunch menu, meaning toasted sandwiches as well as delicious sandwiches.

BLUEY's Coffee & Kitchen Amsterdam (Zeeburgereiland)

BLUEY's Coffee & Kitchen Amsterdam (Zeeburgereiland)

The young BLUEY's Coffee & Kitchen Amsterdam is just that wonderful summer-all-year-long spot that the neighborhood needed. On Zeeburgereiland, friends Loeki and Timo opened their Bleuy's, a predominantly soft blue store (what's in a name). There had to be really good coffee, as well as simple but colorful and delicious food. Oh, and it also had to be a place where the neighborhood especially wanted to come. Okay, that's good. Because that works wonderfully. It is a nice place where everyone can do their thing: work, study, chat, read a book… Island style! Because that's what it is BLUEY'S: the place is inspired by a small beach on the east coast of Australia that has the perfect relaxed, simple, and welcoming atmosphere that Timo and Loeki wanted.

café restaurant Vrijburcht Amsterdam (Steigereiland)

You may call us silly, but this is a nice hidden place on the water! Vrijburcht, the restaurant-cafe that belongs to Theater Vrijburcht (also nice!) is truly a unique location with a beautiful terrace and views over the water and there is also a jetty for boats. Warm and cozy on cold winter evenings and on sunny summer days a lovely terrace with a panoramic view directly on the water.

And a place that is simply open every day, from morning until midnight. Always a place to drop by.

Espresso factory (Zeeburgereiland)

Espresso factory (Zeeburgereiland)

To the question where you can get really good coffee and really tasty cakes on (okay, near) IJburg, there is really only one correct answer: the new Espresso Factory. Tarts? yes, really tasty and creamy vegan (!) cakes. Thank us later. You especially want that after you have brought one of their beautiful natural wines with you, because when the coffee runs out, at the Espresso Factory they ensure that you also have a very nice drink in the afternoon.

Dock 48 (Steigereiland)

Dock 48 (Steigereiland)

Yet another lovely spot by the water; how could it be otherwise at these “islands”? Dok48 is a wonderful regular haunt for many a local; think of it as an upgrade of the traditional pub. Where you can order the daily special, enjoy a bitterball every now and then, and always have a nice beer in the sun.
It takes a clever person to get you away from here. It is also a wonderful place with children, with plenty of room to camp, play, and roam around.

Cape (Zeeburgereiland)

Cape (Zeeburgereiland)

Sun visible on the Amsterdam islands? And it's the weekend? Then you know you should head to Kaap on Steigereiland from 11 o'clock onwards.

There are also regularly wonderful parties to attend here, so be sure to check the agenda that they regularly upload and update online.

Ecluse (Steigereiland)

Ecluse (Steigereiland)

Wow. That is perhaps the first reaction you have when you step through the door at Ecluse. This delightful little place is bright, hip, and just... well, you know. An urban spot on the beautiful Steigereiland, right in the middle of a residential area. From early in the morning, you can pull up a chair for delicious specialty coffee with beans from Uncommon.

The lunch menu? Just as delicious. But there are also fresh pastries and cakes for a light snack. It's hard not to order a delicious chocolate chip cookie alongside that coffee. Furthermore, a good drinks and aperitif start at 16 PM, so you can stick around for that too.

In the mood for an event or looking for a party venue? Right next to the restaurant is a lovely spot to celebrate. So, Ecluse is a real asset.

to take off? Koh or Tokoh

to take off? Koh or Tokoh

Anyone who has found a nice spot (on the water) will do themselves a favor by picking up from KOH (the 'mother' business) or TOKOH (the little sister). At IJburglaan 725, Indonesian chefs Jenti, Made, Dhea and Sita prepare the tastiest Nasi Rames and KOH scores MEGA points with their Indo food. Don't miss it. In fact, go for a walk around the block!

The top photo of this article is also from KOH.
