Sinterklaas and Christmas gift tips for a child aged 5 to 9 years
When they were little, they were easily entertained. Even if only for a moment. And then primary school starts and the more challenging work begins. What are the really nice gift tips for a child aged 5 to 9? Preferably sustainable, conscious and plastic-free. And if possible, they also learn something from it. Nice for Sinterklaas and Christmas, but also for the rest of the year a growing list of small and large gifts for the - as they say - "really big kids".
Because the stream of finding toys that are played with more than twice part is, we put out a call for tips on Instagram. This toy was the most tipped:
- The Mouse House - to-go playhouse suitcases take it with you everywhere
- kapla - a must have and if possible via Marktplaats
- marble track – that of GraviTrax is fun for young and old
Some children's things remain fun over the years.
- Books – always good for young and old. For example the favorite reading books from Team Bart, children's books with a touch of activism.
- Animals from Schleich – second hand or new, your child's favorite animals will be played with for years and can be preserved for the next generation.
- Fancy dress – to extend those last years of magic even further. A cute dino cape or a cool one astronaut suit.
- Games Who Is It, Earthworms of Smooth Spirits. Laughing and fighting with the whole family.
No more cuddly toys, we hear you thinking. Jellycat is just as hyped as Labubu, and the former is definitely much cuter.
Really bad cute we find the food items such as the Amuseable Lemon €28, the pets such as the Corgi €38 and the cuddly bags like the Coffee To Go € 38.
They're learning to read or are already quite good at it. Books as a gift are an entertaining and educational gift at this stage. There are very practical AVI books, but there are also books that draw you into a magical world the moment you open them. Christofoor's books are a favorite here. There are stories about animals, miracles, and magic. Root children, Winter stories and the Story Orchestra. On the wish list are pop-up book The Snow Queen and the music book The PlanetsBesides bookstores, you'll also find Christofoor's books in many children's shops, such as Lieneloe in Haarlem.
How do we get (slightly older) kids off the iPad? That's a question many families ask themselves. The Outdoor Kids books from Uitgeverij Snor encourage children to go on adventures. The series includes a whole range of books covering different interests and abilities. For example, there are guides about tracking and weather forecasting, stargazing, birdwatching en hut building. Or you learn all about the forest and trees en the beach and the sea. Big adventures for little people that adults are more than happy to join in on.

An absolute hit here at home: the Micro StepThere are four different variations for children aged five and up. The Micro Maxi is the most well-known. The first three-wheeled scooters were made by Micro for adults. So they may seem like something for little ones, but the surfing feeling and flexible deck are still fun for older kids. Then there's the Sprite €109 with two wheels, which is light and maneuverable. The Cruiser €156 is for – duh – cruising and has slightly larger wheels. And then there's the Speed+ €160, which can be used for stunts or if – as Mirco advised – your child destroys everything. And if your child is constantly stepping meters ahead of you, it might be time for a scooter for you too.
