Caterers to the rescue (Amsterdam, but they come outside the city limits)
Okay, admittedly, this is mainly a list for ourselves. We are often looking for just a Very Good Caterer. Sometimes one who 'just' makes tasty sandwiches and ditto salad and sometimes one who presents his edible works of art on a silver tray. Caterers to the rescue, because everyone has to throw a party sometimes. Or host a meeting. Or organize a party. These are our favorites.
Walking dinners, drinks with gourmet hamburgers and chicken skewers that first took a dip in Jack Daniel's (oh yes, that makes you hungry): Zing Food certainly knows how to make people happy. It is no surprise, then, that as an Amsterdam-based caterer, they have made themselves popular with law firms in Amsterdam South and tech clubs on the canal belt. Planning a business event with international guests? At Zing Food, they understand what is required. Menus are tailored to guests and dietary requirements, the service level is rock solid, and their offerings are incredibly versatile. Street food, vegetarian, packed lunches, cocktails: bring it on. Often just a little less of a match for private individuals, unless you have a serious budget at hand. Bonus points also for their blog, where they share fun interviews with colleagues from the catering world. Are you deep into your catering search? Then that is actually quite a nice side track.

Frank's Smoke House, on the Wittenburgergracht since 2000 – or in other words: three somersaults from the Maritime Museum. Everything in the display case here comes straight from the smokehouse behind the shop. Smoked duck breast, ham, brisket, bacon, chicken breast, and ribeye – everything is artisanal. Bonus points: a sandwich menu and fresh meals every day to heat up at home. And the place to be for your Christmas dinner, because they have everything you need to put the perfect turkey on the table. Order online and just pop it in the oven at home!
Can we just shout for a moment (okay: and very loudly) about the nicest 'caterers' in Amsterdam, Ab and Nina? Together Ninour? The couple provides every Amsterdam party that matters a bit with colorful, beautiful, always pure and honest and, above all, extremely tasty bites. I said caterers, by the way, because that word doesn't really do Ab and Nina justice. They are atmosphere creators who can also cook very well.
The quirky couple calling themselves The Woman with the Beard are based on the Piet Heinkade and cook fantastically delicious Indonesian/Moluccan dishes with a Western twist. Are you still following? It is not nearly as complicated as it sounds, but it is really delicious. The original dishes from the duo behind the catering company, which was initially located in Amsterdam North (without a place to eat), are actually impossible to pigeonhole. The menu features nothing but daily fresh creations from the owners. Based on the season and whatever their mood is, basically. We once had a 'nutritious peanut butter sandwich', spicy quesadillas, and the 'drunken pulled pork bun'. Since then, they have also published cookbooks, give workshops, and even have their own restaurant: Cafe de Zwijger.
An Amsterdam-Italian classic, but you can't erase it! Renzo's has been distinctive for 30 years because of its home-made (Italian) recipes, the always tasty sandwiches and the delicious take-away meals. But they can also provide a bit of fun!
We met the All Classers through them Wet from Weber, and we have been fans of the family catering company ever since All Class Catering. A club – father, son, two daughters – of passionate people who the tastiest and, moreover, the most good looking provides catering for various events (a wedding or a really good, tasteful company party, for example).
Seasonal products of the best quality with a focus on the busy life in Amsterdam. Everything is made in such a way ready to go is for on the go at Sophie's deli. You don't need to come to Sophie for a simple pasta salad – exciting bites, that is Sophie's trademark. And for catering, nothing is too exciting either. You can come knocking for anything.
