Delicious Mexican food at Restaurant Coba in Amsterdam North
Yeaaaaaaaa. Lord knows that we love good Mexican food and He is in our favor: in Amsterdam North, a street behind the Aambeeldstraat where you will find not 1, 2 but 3 (summer) favorites, namely Hotel de Goudfazant (the classic where things never go wrong), Hangar (the most attractive city beach in the city, unfortunately the service is a little less than ideal. Quite bad even) and FC Hyena, opened Restaurant Coba. It's a taqueria. And taqueria Coba, or Coba Taqueria, is a keeper, that's for sure.
The former garage on the corner of the Schaafstraat (a few doors down Skate cafe, great – affordable – fun, definitely also for non-skaters) in Amsterdam North, a more than excellent stretch of stairs from Amsterdam CS (a pound over to the right). So that's where Coba Taqueria opened. The warehouse in which the Mexican restaurant - run by two Amsterdam natives - is located was colorfully and tastefully renovated into a real-Mexico taqueria with, of course, a strong Amsterdam North flair. Because we are in the Brooklyn of the Low Countries. Long bar, cozy seating, nice and spacious because no one likes to sit on the neighbors lap and an open kitchen behind glass where you almost feel like you are sitting in it. Or at least be withdrawn.
Expect delicious spicy food and fresh drinks (finally an Amsterdam address with good watermelon juice like you drink it in Bali, and in Mexico of course, not such a weak mealy infusion) and closing times at the discretion of the owners. Oh, and locusts, you can eat them there too. We love. Everything. They are closed from Monday to Wednesday, and the ball is from Thursday to Sunday. Making a reservation (a call, but you can also do it via Facebook) is useful: there are not very many places and the folks at Coba don't like to disappoint you at the door.
