9+ hotspots in De 9 Straatjes
The shopping mecca of Amsterdam Center. You know, de 9 Streets. These are the streets between the Prinsengracht, the Keizersgracht, the Herengracht and the Singel. In the middle of the canal belt you will find wonderful shops, restaurants and a lot of fun. These are 9+ hotspots in De 9 Straatjes.
At the Andaz Hotel you will find Prince & Monkey, where you sip cocktails and c eat in an eclectic interior with a playful nod to Dutch history. AI artworks inspired by the Golden Age and a gin table reminiscent of old-fashioned Dutch pub tables complete the picture. The cocktail menu is composed by award-winning bartender Nikos Bakoulis and revolves around biodiversity. Think: cocktails with ingredients from Dutch soil such as carrot, beet and fennel. Starters to share (or not, your choice) such as Zeeland oysters and tempura tiger prawns. For the hands is it a lot of fish, like soft shell crab in coconut curry or grilled octopus with tamarind and chili. Add a cocktail and your evening is complete. Voilà! Read more here.
Shopping like Beyoncé is now possible in De 9 Straatjes. The famous clothing brand Rails (you know from the checked shirts worn by many celebs such as Beyoncé a few years ago), can now be found in the Negen Straatjes. No more checked shirts, but high-quality fabrics and a relaxed Californian fit.
And what's extra nice is that you can enjoy a coffee in the store's beautiful patio while shopping. Or your friend enjoys coffee and you can continue shopping, although that friend can of course also go to the men's department.
Real Dutch people cycle through wind and weather. Or pretend. Arriving at work like a drowned cat makes no one happy, so in practice public transport and the car still regularly beat the beloved steel horse. FRIDAY to the rescue. This Swiss brand has been making bags and accessories from recycled truck tarpaulins since 1993. They keep your things dry and make your outfit a bit nicer. Feel like exploring the city by bike? Then rent a nice ROETS bike, which is also possible here.
The Amsterdam Pulitzer hotell, you know, once upon a time (a long time ago) the somewhat dusty hotel on the Prinsengracht, just around the corner from the Rozengracht, had a great catering industry. We are fans of the bar, the garden and above all Restaurant Jansz where you can enjoy a wonderful evening even without hotel associations: even the entrance is in the 9 streets, the Reestraat to be precise.
In addition to the international guests who come to Jansz restaurant (because Hello Hotel Pulitzer), the restaurateurs focus just as much on the local residents of Jansz. They do this with an accessible but refined menu that changes regularly so that Arnout's team can provide both Amsterdam residents and international guests with a surprising, delicious Dutch evening.
Perfect base for De 9 Straatjes The Hoxton. Not just for De 9 Straatjes actually, anywhere in the world, but that's besides the point.
Stay overnight? Definitely do it, but don't forget to drop by Lotti's for a great cup of coffee and even better cocktails. You will find The Hoxton Amsterdam on the Herengracht. What you will also find there is a modern and warm interior with beautiful leather sofas and soft cushions. Sort of a living room feeling and a little nicer. The building was once the residence of the mayor, now it is contemporary, but with the class of the past.
So much (too much?) choice in the Nine Streets and that is precisely why we are highlighting just one: Screaming beans. Always a good spot for a break while strolling through the 9 streets. Once again with our own coffee blend. At Screaming beans you can sit comfortably in the somewhat dark, narrow building. The coffee is full of flavor and the espresso is nice and spicy, so you can enjoy it all day long.
Motel a Miio is first and foremost sustainable and fair and the ceramics are also handmade. Laura and Anna from Munich create Motel a Miio in Portugal; a beautiful tableware, cups, bowls, vases and accessories brand in beautiful colors and shapes.
In the Netherlands it can be found exactly in De 9 Straatjes. Here you can come and see the ceramics and take them home with you if you fall in love.
You will find tableware in neutral tones combined with cozy colors such as mint, deep green and rosé. Vases in sleek or organic shapes and with contrasting colors, speckles or patterns. Dog parents can also go here: Motel a Miio has beautiful food bowls for your four-legged friend.
Are you already familiar with our favorite restaurants in Amsterdam? Not yet, then you shouldn't skip this list. SMELT also got a spot on this list.
The interior here is more than cozy, think of wooden tables, dim lights and candles. The bar of the former café de Doffer has been transformed into a long dinner table where you can enjoy the best French, Dutch and Swiss cheeses with your friends until the late hours. The cheeses come from none other than the Kaaskamer. They also serve wines that will delight you. They also call themselves the living room for your ultimate cheese cravings. And nothing could be further from the truth. Another recommendation is the fondue toast with homemade kimchi or farmer's ham for lunch! Bon Appetite.
Croissants with cocktails, anyone? You don't say no to that. You can visit Café Wolf Amsterdam for a delicious breakfast or a very tasty lunch. This new restaurant is located one door next to Bakery Wolf (yes, that one really tasty one in the Nine Streets in Amsterdam) and these things – as the name suggests – belong together. And yes, that's a party.
You will find the bakery and café in the oh-so-nice Wolvenstraat in Amsterdam. The cafe is beautiful. Interior designer Anne Claus, known from the show (Republic of Bloemendaal, among other things, was created by her and yes, that is just about the most beautiful place in the Netherlands), has been able to turn it into a very nice place. White marble tables, wooden elements and beautiful art.
SOUS bar & bistro is located in the basement of a typical Amsterdam building. You can have a delicious lunch, dinner (shared dining) and drinks. The lunch menu mainly features sandwiches and pasta and salads in the evening. And of course cocktails.
They don't take reservations for lunch on weekends, but you can always drop by.
'The best sandwiches in the 9 Streets', that title is clearly reserved for Chun Café. You will find the best sandwiches at Berenstraat 8.
And those sandwiches are called 'toasts'. Think of thick slices of white bread fried in butter. Topped with different ingredients and you'd rather have them all. The options are: Egg Salad, Tofu Puff, Bacon Egg Cheese and Garlic Shrimps Egg. But also our recommendation, and the one that Chun is secretly a bit known for, is the Rib Eye Bulgogi. Bulwatti? Bulgogi is a Korean term for a sweet marinade in which the stir fry beef is baked. Topped with a yuzu mayonnaise, which makes this sandwich just a little fresher. Is your mouth watering yet? Good. We also understand that this sandwich may not pair well with your cappuccino at 10:00 in the morning. No problem because Chun also serves special Milk and Matcha bubble teas with tapioca pearls, recommended: the iced matcha strawberry with boba. heads up: these are served from 11:00.
