New in town: dinner at Vinnies in the Scheldestraat, Amsterdam South
You have of course already known VINNIES from Amsterdam for the delicious brunch and lunch they serve in their two VINNIES stores, one on the Haarlemmerstraat and the other on the Scheldestraat. The men from VINNIES, Vincent de Cloet and Jules Ex, have recently introduced a new concept: dining at VINNIES in the Scheldestraat. Either: Dinner at Vinnies. A weekly changing menu of the best local seasonal products. And yes, that is definitely worth a try. We did that too. And thought something of it.
It should no longer be a surprise that team VINNIES can cook. Lots of vegetarian dishes and especially lots of lunch dishes, that's what we know our friends from. But it was a surprise that there would be an explosion of flavors on the menu for dinner.
Where shall we start? Just the first dish: a watermelon tartare with curry sauce and fried capers. then I hear you thinking... Watermelon with curry sauce? Yes! A strange combination but it is surprisingly tasty. What else… Veal steak with corn cream, roasted eggplant with tomato and feta. Plaice fillet with a fennel and grapefruit sauce. Everything special and everything remarkably good.
Was that it then? Certainly not! A delicious cheese board with three real Dutch cheeses the next one. Nice and cheesy. With sourdough bread from Broodbakkerij Ex, from Jules' sister. To end it sweetly: cardamom cooked in cream with fresh fruit. Kinda sweet but so delicious.
Also important: it is fun at VINNIES. The men from VINNIES come and have a nice chat with each dish and explain exactly what the dish is. If you are completely fed up (which is almost impossible) and cannot wait, you can now go to the Scheldestraat every Thursday and Friday evening for a 2 to 5-course menu.
