Hello summer! Hello, end of afternoon drinks 7 days a week! Hello Amsterdam. Okay, the beach bars are open again (just grab this favorites list for convenience: the nicest beach bars in the Netherlands), we are looking forward to it and we will make time. But if you don't always have all the time in the world to drive to the coast (this all depends on the net drinks time of course), or if you don't have a car at your disposal (and don't feel like going to Zandvoort or, horror, the bus ), then there are always the city beaches...
Time for an update. Here it comes: the Amsterdam city beaches of 2022.
Can we first have a heartfelt 'duh' here? Because Pllek is and remains a favorite on this city beaches in Amsterdam topic. Duh.
Pllek makes a number of containers in shades of red in Amsterdam North. Inside there is a hodgepodge of sofas, the large bar dominates on the right and the amazing view of Amsterdam's city center dominates on the left. A great place for a city beach you say? Correct. And so it happened. Although Pllek is your place to be all year round, and has been for years. On to Pllek, Amsterdam North.
And we will continue with the changes: also on the Stone Head on the Westerdoksdijk, the people behind Easter Island made way for a new population who moved into the small, sympathetic wooden 'shack'. Those folks (from Easter Island) are now sitting on the Prinsengracht, in Café Kikkie (after De Twee Prinsen); good people. But the Stenen Hoofd is and remains a nice place to get a breath of fresh air on the water in the heart of Amsterdam! Plus, it's one of the best places for a dog park-meets-event zone with the best views (and always the longest hours of sunshine!).
Haas & Popi was not on one of the few real city beaches in Amsterdam for a very long time before it made way for De Japanner.
Beach Island they call it, the sandy plain on the water of IJburg. In the pavilion there, on the white sand, there were already a number of really nice catering establishments (Blijburg, Haas & Popi...), which have to close their doors every time (the reason for this will certainly be that it is mainly a seasonal destination). is). And although we are truly sorry that Haas & Popi is gone, we think De Japanner is a really good move in this location: a proven concept that is rarely available in the city. So there's a good chance that you'll soon find us drinking sake in IJburg!

This everything-but-a-hotel was created thanks to crowdfunding and the operators designed the building together with a group of local residents. Old shipping containers form the basis, there is an enormous glass facade (so light, and that view!) and felled trees from the Vondelpark were used for the bar. Recycled material has also been used as much as possible for the interior. A vegetable garden is being created outside and the little ones can play between the trees. And on the roof, we think you will catch a sublime sunset there in the summer of 2018.
Location? Sloterplas Amsterdam. And that is certainly a very good idea on a beautiful summer day.
For two years in a row, a terrace has been built on the Amsterdam Amstel in the summer months, in front of one of the most famous buildings in the city: Carré theater. And it's coming again in 2022! City beach style, of course: tables to sit at on one side, beach chairs on the other and your feet in the sand. And yes, that really is one of the nicest places to celebrate your mid-week afternoon drink. Oh well, it Carré Terrace on the Amstel. What you call turning a necessity into a virtue: a pontoon was made ON the water on which a huge terrace was built. So there you are with a fantastic view over the Amstel and in the sun until the late evening. And then (sort of, you're on a pontoon after all) floating into the summer evening(s). Heart.
Is it a city beach where you can go at any time? No, not that. But often! The people behind many of our beloved Amsterdam festival locations aren't that crazy after all... That's how the folks took it Homeport Amsterdam their dike of a location on the outskirts of Amsterdam (west) and turned it into the largest (we're guessing) terrace in Amsterdam! The circus tent that is so characteristic of the site remained, but instead of dancing (and fooling around, although that is still possible and allowed), you will sit at one of the wooden tables this summer when there are no festivals (and the site is open).

You forget it far too quickly, but Gaasperplas is one of the city's few real 'beaches'. And it is also one of the few places where you can have a barbecue by the water! So bring your own and enjoy summer swimming!
This is how hotel The Grand opened, you know, the classic in the heart of Amsterdam, in the heat of the moment (with almost 30 degrees on the counter, that was both literally and figuratively the case). The Grand Beach – a 'piece' of Côte Azur in Amsterdam.

And now that we're on the subject... The Aambeeldstraat and its rear neighbors are certainly a wonderful place for a beautiful summer day. Restaurant Hotel de Goudfazant is and remains one of the best places in the city (never disappointed), with a bit of luck you are welcome on the terrace of Taqueria Coba. Skate cafe is of course there for the cool crowd and we saw that a lot of work is being done here on a new kind of city farm, right opposite the place where the ferry arrives...
Not a city beach, but a hidden, rock-solid summer favorite in Amsterdam North: Pompet. In heThe Noorderpark in Amsterdam has been home to a fine establishment since last summer: Café Pompet. A piece of France in Amsterdam. You come there not only for the nice French menu, but also for the jeu de boules court, to hang out in the park or in the evening by the large campfire, for the live music that is often played there, or the flea market. Enthusiastic, nice people and an always pleasant address.

Hidden behind the RAI, but no Amsterdammer doesn't know Strand Zuid. Right? To be honest, we don't always like it there, although those mixed feelings mainly stem from the time when Strand Zuid was too busy, too hip and too much to see and be seen. The heat no longer hits the roof and, to be honest, the address has immediately increased enormously 'we like' list. Ha! Beach South
After a long period of DIY work, De Verbroederij finally opened at Johan van Hasseltweg 21, near Hanger & co, in Amsterdam North, where the Pont moors. A sweet spot on the sand by the water.
