You will find the beautiful island called Lamu off the coast of Kenya and you will sail in here no time by boat from the same Kenya. No time? Yes. You fly into Manda Airport in Kenya and it is not far from there. The island is home to one of the oldest inhabited Swahili towns – an ethnic group that has lived here for more than 700 years. The special thing about this island is that you will not find any cars or taxis there. No, no. At the southernmost tip of the island surrounded by palm trees, you will find six cabanas on a secluded beach. A place where nothing is required, but everything is possible. Where you enjoy the peace and the surroundings. Big plus points are that the energy consumption of the accommodation is also driven by the sun and wind, with little to no use of chemicals and plastic. Like, like, like! Okay, back to the cabanas. Each cottage has its own large double bed, bathroom and private terrace. It is absolutely fantastic to sit on your own terrace, surrounded by lovely greenery and singing birds.
On an elevated beach dune you will find a communal swimming pool and you can dine in the restaurant (with a stunning view of the sea) or enjoy a well-deserved cocktail sip. It's also a ball for the sports enthusiasts among us, because you can play here kite surfing, become zen during yoga classes or let yourself be pampered with the help of wellness facilities. How about sailing into the sunset with the dhow boats or spending a whole day on the water? Sounds cool. Another fun fact: every cabana name has a link to the Hawaiian language. And that's not surprising, because the owner's husband is from Hawaii and that's kind of how it is home away from home.
Okay okay, this pearl falls into the category of super nice boutique hotel. The hotel was born in the 60s and is still run by the same family to this day. The hotel has 28 rooms, all of which have a beautiful view of the sea and a private bathroom, ceiling fans in the mosquito net and personal safes. Oh and the kids can come along, because they also have family rooms here. Thumbs up! But there's more, because in the hotel restaurant you can taste flavors from all over the world.
