Podcast Tips: Put on your headphones and start binge-listening, these are our favorite podcasts

Every year there is a new 'medium' that 'the next big thing' is mentioned, but they rarely stick... But those podcasts, they can hardly be called a new medium anymore. They've become established and we're running out of ears to actually listen to everything we want to listen to. The number of podcasts keeps growing, with our collection of favorites and the most weekly question: what should we listen to now? And of course, 'should' is a broad term: we have podcasts that we want to listen to for relaxation (namely, chick lit of crimes of the podcasts) and the podcasts from which we learn something (pleasures and burdens while traveling by train or car, for example).

Hence this longer list, categorized by category, podcast tips: our favorite podcasts. And with that 'our' or broad team to Bartjes. Voila, on to the new Bingelisten.

We from WC Duck: Suitcase Stories

We from WC Duck: Suitcase Stories

Yes, of course there is only one podcast you really need to listen to and that is of course our own SUITCASE STORIES Podcast!

SUITCASE STORIES is the Netherlands' only true travel podcast—by Barts Boekje, of course. Each episode features a travel-loving and inspiring woman, from female leaders to creative adventurers. During this series, we'll take you on a journey to the most extraordinary places in the world.

We talk about more than just destinations: it's about genuine experiences, deep connections with local cultures, special encounters, tranquility, and adventure. From hidden guesthouses to unique retreats, from far-flung discoveries to gems close to home – always with an open mind and a love for stories that resonate.

Listen & Learn

Listen & Learn

Fun, funny, fine, but a podcast is also the perfect (…) way to multitask: listening and learning at the same time. We ourselves are endlessly fascinated by all the developments in AI or how to run businesses And there are plenty of (good) podcasts about that. We listen to these:

  • To reports
  • My first million
  • acquired
  • Boss babe
  • Grace Beverly (working hard)
  • Pod Muse
  • The Diary of a CEO
  • So-called Successful
  • Aspire
  • Dutch dragons

Listen-to Podcasts (aka What the Netherlands Listens to)

Listen-to Podcasts (aka What the Netherlands Listens to)

Those podcasts you put on on your way to work or school, in the morning while getting ready with a coffee on the side. Not too heavy topics. Just pleasant, everyday, and relatable. Our favorites:

VSR (Formerly Shameless Randstad)

As they say themselves: In the VSR podcast, journalist Doortje Smithuijsen and brand strategist Perre van den Brink investigate The questions modern life still hasn't answered. It's enjoyable listening, and you might even learn something here and there.

Self podcast

In the Self-podcast, childhood friends Jaap Siewertsz van Reesema (singer/producer) and Sander Schimmelpenninck (journalist/presenter) discuss their lives and the world. Two thirtysomethings with careers in the media, with Instagrammable lives, but also homebodies who long for the countryside. Two buddies with very different characters, but a shared love for self-pity. Every week a round of low points, one main topic, many side paths, hopeless business ideas and peeking at beautiful girls. In short, Siewertsz and Schimmelpenninck just do whatever.

Geuze and Gorgels

In a similar category is the podcast by Monica Geuze and Kay Gorgels. It's not necessarily top-notch, but it is very enjoyable and—important and impressive too—always current.

Like music to your ears

Like music to your ears

Whether you're a regular dancer or not, the Netherlands has a fascinating musical culture. And yes, there are podcasts about it, of course. For example:

The Machine

A weekly podcast by Atze de Vrieze and Malou Miedema about the world behind the music. It explores the business decisions that shape how we all listen to music. They talk you through the most important news about festivals, streaming services, and record labels. Very interesting, oh-I-didn't-know-that material.

If walls could talk
This one's about legendary clubs in the Netherlands. It does give me a bit of FOMO, but that's okay.

More enjoyable listening

Man, man, man

This podcast is presented by Bas Louissen, Chris Bergström and Domien Verschuuren, all three working in radio. The men find out how masculine they are and share this with the listeners. Topics such as shame, beer, women, public transport, odd jobs and aging are over. Down to earth, funny and recognizable for both men and women.

Tess & Britt come back to it

These ladies are busy business partners, best friends (and neighbors), and so in this podcast, they share their personal experiences and valuable insights—you get the idea. Each episode answers a listener's question. It's like visiting friends.
Another day

Podcast makers Marcel van Roosmalen and Gijs Groenteman only need 12 minutes to go through the news. Every day a new telephone conversation in which current events, successes and memories are discussed. Plus a little bit of complaining about life in between.

The Shit Show

Wonderful (but real) podcast for both men and women in which the very likeable Janneke van der Horst and Stéphanie Hoogenberk discuss the hottest topics every week, including annoyances and suffering. Often male suffering, by the way. This suffering can be attributed primarily to men and is completely incomprehensible to most women. Wonderfully relatable.

Podcasts for foodies

Podcasts for foodies

Movies and series about restaurants and chefs make you hungry, but that's also the case with Podcasts.

What does the podcast offer?

Nice pun to start with but okIn this podcast, Jonas Nouwen and Jeroen Doucet discuss everything about food and drinks. From cooking in the kitchen to eating out and from classy recipes to trends. Always according to a fixed format where it is usually about a dish, but the men's favorite restaurants are also discussed.

Also really tasty: Enjoy the Podcast, by Rotterdam's Gijsbrecht Brouwer, who invites a different guest every two weeks to talk about food.

Spilled Milk

A good dose of humor, nice. The episodes are made by two writers. Molly Wizenbergen Matthew Amster-Burton. The two choose one specific topic such as omelettes and then talk about it for half an hour. Yup, half an hour and it really goes by in no time.

Easy eaters

Can you make Viennetta yourself? Why does kiwi make your gums itch so much? In the podcast Easy Eaters, two Restaurant Reviewers talk about topics that are not often discussed at a professional level. Hiske Versprille and Joël Broekaert like almost everything and in this podcast they talk about food experiences and provide help to listeners with failed dishes.

Dinner time

Talking about favorite food? Dinner time it is. From an exciting or super boring ingredient, entire menu to a single cooking tip. Even practical kitchen appliance tips. Oh, and what they eat in the evening? They tell you that too. Also nice to listen to while cooking, because it is twenty minutes, and perfect just before dinner time (get it?)

An insight into the work of the secret service

An insight into the work of the secret service

How interesting is listening in on the secret service? The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) has a podcast series The Service launched in which we as listeners can hear how the AIVD investigates a terrorist threat. It is the first time that the AIVD has given us an insight into the work of the secret service in this way.

The investigation in the series is fictional. The AIVD employees explain what steps the service takes during a similar investigation. They also talk about placing secret microphones and cameras and eavesdropping on conversations. A lawyer also explains which intelligence tools the AIVD may use in which situation and why. Exciting, interesting and simply highly recommended.

Laughing out loud

Laughing out loud

It's been around for a while, but that doesn't make it any less fun: Carice van Houten and Halina Reijn's podcast, which predates the success of Reijn's Babygirl and Van Houten's career shift to activism (which we applaud, let's be clear). Carice van Houten and Halina Reijn are absolutely blasting the idea that women don't have a sense of humor and that "slapstick" shows are only for men, with their new podcast, Carice & Halina. It reminded us of the early days of Jaap and Sander's Zelfspotcast (which, in 2025, has become a bit more polished and well-thought-out than it was – a shame), but this time with two inspiring women who 1) have known each other for a long time, 2) have known each other inside and out, and 3) have an opinion on everything (which we usually agree with).
