What a shocker. The Netflix documentary The Tinder Swindler is about a man who seems ideal after a match on Tinder. Appearances can be deceiving, because the unlucky ladies who fall for the Prince of Diamonds are scammed out of tons of money. Besides the shocking stories of the women, it teaches us the lesson not to simply blame the victims. This is looking on the edge of your seat.
Not that it is necessarily the best series ever, but it is still wonderful to - highly fashionable – strolling through the streets of New York with Carrie & co. We weren't even twenty then Sex and the City made our fashion and travel hearts beat faster. And now thirty-something (holding) the series is back. Name And Just Like That but pure nostalgia. The WHQS reboot is about topics that affect us all. From normal themes such as growing older, sex and children to social issues such as inclusivity and sexual orientation. Yes, still has And Just Like That a nice sauce of sex and fashion. How you And Just Like That can watch as long as HBO is not yet available in the Netherlands you read here.
De BBC First a series of Around the World in 80 Days is a grand adventure in which Phileas Fogg makes a bet in the 1870s. In amazing settings you see the characters going on an adventure through the most beautiful landscapes and cultures. This semi-modern adaptation of Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days is a classic worth binge-watching.

A woman in her late 40s, Leda of British descent, goes on holiday alone to a small Greek village. Sitting on the beach, she becomes entangled in the lives of a family present, causing her to be confronted with her own painful past during motherhood. My Lost Daughter is written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and the actresses Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson play their roles so strongly that you can sense the uncomfortable atmosphere of the situations. My Lost Daughter is a moving – not exactly cheerful – film that haunts your mind afterwards.
On Ziggo Go you watch The White Lotus, a series about life at a luxury resort in Hawaii. We witness the lives of three wealthy American families, the hotel staff and the struggles that they have. The series can best be described as satire and you can laugh out loud at the sometimes sickening behavior of the characters. From one just married couple from which the rich man's son keeps complaining about the wrong room to a somewhat older unstable lady who wants to scatter her deceased mother's ashes on her holiday. Opposite the white privileged are the (indigenous) fellow players who suffer from the spoiled behavior of the guests. A funny series with a serious undertone in the form of a sneer at the behavior of rich Americans.
Since we smitten are on Lupine (see a few blocks below) and we can't wait for Netflix to put the next season on the air, we have changed our minds when it comes to French series. And then there was the French Netflix series Ten percent. A Netflix original about a chaotic agency for actors. Or no, that's not right: Ten percent has been around for a few seasons now and so – alleluia – we can now get on with it again binge. The first three seasons especially excel when it comes to the jokes of the guest stars, really fun. We will experience part 4!
In 2019, Halina Reijn and Carice van Houten announced that they were working on a new series, Red Light. Then it was quiet for a while until the trailer appeared. Red Light is about three women who try to escape prostitution. The new series was made by production company Man Up. Halina and Carice are the initiators of this company.
Man Up wants to tell stories from a female perspective. And in combination with a lot of good actors, it should be a success. Can be seen from Friday 19-02-2021 on NPO1.
Ready for an easy binocular? Then new series Firefly lane highly recommended. Two friends Tully and the slightly more frumpy Kate have been friends since a young age. They both grew up in the American provincial town of Firefly Lane, Yes hence the name. The two women have a close bond, they support each other through thick and thin, so they are real friends.
BBC First also has a wide range of (exciting) entertainment, read more here.
In Lupin, from the makers of Now You See Me, plays Omar Sy (known from Les Intouchables, among others) a particularly clever master thief. Inspired by the tales of Arsène Lupin, plays Sy, under the name Assane Diop, a driven gentleman thief who uses his brain to avenge a wealthy family who wrongly caused his father to be imprisoned. Diop sees it as his mission – a la Arsène Lupine – to commit perhaps one of the most special, slightly gallant thefts ever and thus prove that his father is innocent. Will Diop succeed?
If we were the first to recommend this to you Bridgerton to go and see, well... You missed out. The series, cast in eight episodes, is one in caliber nice to look away. Don't feel like heavy, melodramatic or the chance of flowing tears? Then you are guaranteed to enjoy Bridgerton. A costume drama, as they say, but with an indescribably modern twist. Based on Daphne Bridgerton, you are taken in eight episodes for an hour to the year 1813, in which the most important task for a woman is getting married. Also called the society season. And that's a handful of gossip and a good pinch of us knowing us.
En good news on its way, a second season is coming. Some even talk about eight seasons. So enough about the Bridgerton family in the future.
Attention all Lovers ER en Grey's Anatomy you like this! The hospital series New Amsterdam. This follows doctor Max Goodwin. He is the new medical director of New Amsterdam, one of the oldest public hospitals in the United States. In the first episode it becomes clear that Dr. Goodwin has a busy job. As the new medical director, he gets to know all his employees and immediately fires the entire cardiac surgery department due to the poor results. Dr. Goodwin considers the interests of the patients more important than the hospital's profits - to the dismay of a number of influential people within the organization.
New Amsterdam is based on the true events from the book 'Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital'.
The Restaurant is a Swedish series on Netflix that takes place in Stockholm in 1945, just after the war. The Restaurant is about the Löwlander family. Together they run a high-quality restaurant 'Djurgårdskällaren'. The first two seasons of the series cover the period from 1945 to 1962, the period when the Second World War had just ended. Due to these difficult times, the family business is on the verge of collapse. Everyone in the family has their own ideas to solve this disaster scenario. The third season takes place in the period 1968 to 1971. A period full of political and social changes. The Restaurant is exciting and beautiful.
The Bold Type is inspired by the life of former Cosmopolitan magazine editor-in-chief Joanna Coles. The series was filmed in the major cities of New York City, Toronto and Montreal. The series shows the lives of three millennial women. Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee and Meghann Fahy. In the series, these three women work at a fictional global magazine called Scarlet.
A Spanish series Elite on Netflix. The series revolves around the students in an elite high school. There are three students from working families who arrive at this fancy school. Of course that clashes. The three students get into a fight with the rich students at school. Exciting things happen from this. A series that will have you on the edge of your seat. You'll be able to figure out Elite in no time.
Four weddings and a funeral is a 1994 comedy film starring Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, Andie MacDowell and many more great actors. A close group of friends who all come together at three weddings where funny anecdotes occur. Then a friend from the group of friends dies and they meet again at his funeral. After the funeral, they have one more wedding for the lead character himself. This turns out differently than a normal wedding…
The wedding with the most viewers on TV. That was the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The life of the British royal family has been filmed in a series, The Crown. We have already devoured the three seasons on Netflix. Now also the documentary Diana in her own words is on Netflix to stay in that British royal atmosphere for a while, it was immediately on. Diana candidly tells her story about her bad marriage and Camilla. Special... After this documentary you will understand even better what the British royal family is like. N this documentary, watching the new season of The Crown (season four) is more understandable and exciting.
The first three seasons of The Crown have gone by at breakneck speed. You can also call it binge watching. The great news: a fourth season is out on Netflix! In the fourth season of The Crown the British royal family is set in the 70s and 80s. The time of Margaret Thatcher, the burglary of Buckingham Palace and of course the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana. Exciting! And, season five is also in the works.
Exciting, moving, compelling music and good acting. Oh, and the 50s and 60s atmosphere and looks, we really like that too. The story is about a young girl in an orphanage. The story takes place around 1950. Beth, the girl, discovers that she is a great chess talent. She unexpectedly becomes a star and has to deal with her addiction that she acquired at a younger age in the orphanage.
You had us ate Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. The two play a married couple (winning) in the New York (winning squared) murder mystery (favorite) The Undoing. And if there are so many positive points in such a short sentence, you can't help but take a look, right? And so we do this. Disadvantages? There are only 6 episodes, one of which is online every week (we find it a bit annoying - binge we want). But that is really the only disadvantage.
Psychotherapist Grace Fraser lives in a closet of a house in Manhattan with her husband and son. In the morning there is a bustle around the kitchen island, after which her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) rushes to the clinic as an oncologist and their son Henry (Noah Jupe) joins his friends at a small, expensive private school. Until a horrific murder puts an end to the idyllic life on the Upper East Side. Grace's husband Jonathan, the charming doctor who cares so much about children with cancer, is suddenly a suspect in the murder case about which we will not reveal anything here, but which generates a lot of publicity. For everyone who was also a fan of Big Little Lies (rich circles, New York, Nicole Kidman)
The indoor playground can only be visited by appointment and dropping by to visit friends is now just a bit easier. So we have to make the best of it at home. In comes Sonos: who doesn't love a Disney movie?! So that's really fun for young and old (we love Disney is just as hard as the little one thanks to the always exactly funny jokes that only adults understand and which Disney seems to have a patent on). Sonos understands that: the leading sound experience company (That is of course not a term we came up with ourselves, but it describes it nicely so why change a winning team) plays nice and early for early Sinterklaas and gives Disney+ for free for six months away. Provided you have the Arc (that's a want-you-have soundbar, one of those long things to connect to your TV for fantastic sound), Beam (a thing, a (compact) soundbar to be precise, to play your music streaming) or purchase a qualifying speaker set. Read more.
Designated Survivor is an American political drama series about a cabinet member who suddenly becomes president of the United States when all his cabinet colleagues die. And now with a view to the elections, this is relevant and exciting. And that combination works. America's fate lies in the hands of an 'ordinary' civil servant as the country faces a mounting crisis following an attack on Washington.
A different kind of relationship than what we are used to, but ok. A couple brings a third person into the relationship. The three of them just didn't expect that love would come with it. This is one of those series that really doesn't deserve a top prize (we think) but it is one of those series that you put on when you're still sitting on the couch for an evening with your laptop on your lap or are still half busy with the last things of that day. day. Just look away stupidly. Sometimes we quite like it.
A British series (always tasty) about a talented criminal lawyer who is good at exonerating his clients and wants to keep winning. Until a particularly challenging case comes to the lawyer... It is a series consisting of three parts, each one hour long. Conclusion: you have completed this within 1 evening and can tick it off your Netflix list.
This series on Netflix is exciting, not normal. You don't want to stop watching, sometimes you do, because there are also very sad parts. CIA analyst Carrie Mathison struggles with her mental health and family issues as she leads the fight against terrorism in this political thriller series.
The series is based on the Israeli television series Hatufim, also known as Prisoners of War, which was created by Gideon Raff. Claire Danes plays Carrie Mathison, a CIA agent who is convinced that a US Marine is a spy for Al Qaeda. This Marine was a prisoner of war of Al Qaeda for eight years and is a threat to national security in the eyes of the CIA.
How can we say this, yes a naive young woman ends up in prison after embezzling money for her boyfriend. She must learn to survive in a cruel and dangerous new environment. Five seasons, 40 episodes. Look, that's something we can do. This series reminded us a bit of the Spanish version of Orange Is The New Black.
We devoured the first season a while ago (2017 to be precise) and now the second season is finally here. How happy were we? Pleased! Especially when you know that Meryl Streep makes her entrance in the second season. The perfect and luxurious (or so it seems) life of a number of women (Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley. We know, all good actresses) in California turns out to be anything but perfect. Behind the front doors the drama, the secrets and the lies, begin. This is one of those series that you don't want to turn off.
We always like it when McDreamy (that one divine doctor from Grays Anatomy) shows up on TV. And yes, in Devils he can be seen as the CEO of a large bank. He wants to pass on his title to Massimo (a major banker) but does not give the promotion... Exciting (we like that) and also really innovative in the way it is filmed and the music is also really good.
This hot and happening series on Netflix is one where glamor and fashion are not a question. Sex And The City and Gossip Girl style all the way. Yes, we are talking about Emily in Paris here. Emily is American workaholics (can't speak French...) who moves to Paris and starts working in a large, well-known French company. These two worlds collide quite a bit and are divided by French and American prejudices. So cliché that it becomes fun. You can look away from Emily in Paris in 1,2,3.
Foreign series are a separate category in themselves. You either hate it or love it. And if it's really good, we love it. Let this Danish series, Rita, be anything but bad. It's about a beloved teacher and mother with strong opinions. She is adored by children, but with adults it is a little more difficult. Humorous, but also gentle. We absolutely love it and after a while you get used to Danish and you don't notice it anymore.
To stay in the foreign sphere... Velvet is a Spanish spy. The series is set in 1950s Madrid. Alberto, the son of the boss of the large fashion house Velvet, is in love with Anna (a seamstress in the studio). This love is strongly disapproved by his father. A kind of Romeo and Juliet scene with a lot of drama and sad events. A real couch potato because you don't really want to stop watching. Beautiful and exciting.
The name already reveals it. This two-season series with well-known actors Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse and Nat Faxon is about a group of friends from their student days. A close-knit group. After university they all went their separate ways. And after twenty years they meet again at an engagement party. They show how people change and how friendships and love do not become easier after so many years. Especially very funny, a series where you don't have to think or pay too much attention. Great for an evening of doing nothing.
The first season of Undercover was already a success. We are fans of this mixture of Dutch and Flemish TV. Very exciting with good scenes that leave you wanting more. The first season went by quickly and now the second season is a fact. A new scenery, new suspects and new tension. No binge watching, now you have to wait for a new episode every Sunday. This way we can look forward to something in these times.
Being a mother and a busy job is sometimes too much. Workin' Moms is a Canadian comedy series where you look into the lives of four very different types of women who want to combine their work life, mother life and love life as best as possible. Sometimes things don't work out the way you wanted. Comical and laughable. We finished this series in one sitting.
For the peeps who haven't had time to watch it yet: the series is about Joe Goldberg (also known as Dan in Gossip Girl), the manager of a bookstore in New York City. During his work he meets Guinevere Beck, with whom he immediately falls in love. This infatuated Joe quickly turns into stalker Joe. This is how Joe learns everything about Guinevere and keeps an eye on her 24/7.
The series Top Boy is about the social housing estate Summerhouse in East London. A place where the local drug trade is largely in the hands of Dushane. But Dushane wants more (even more) and to become 'top boy' and eliminate his enemies he teams up with the notorious drug baron Bobby Raikes. In the same untamed neighbourhood, 13-year-old Ra'Nell leads a much better life and tries not to associate with boys like Dushane. However, doubts arise when Ra'Nell's mother ends up in a psychiatric ward and his buddy also joins the gang.
One that you can watch through in one evening: Russian Doll. Nadia (Natasha Lyonne / also starred in Orange is the new Black) is a New York woman who finds herself in a situation where she dies over and over again at a party celebrating her 36th birthday. Russian Doll would like to find out exactly how. The series is a bit like the Groundhog Day of Edge of Tomorrow but the new/modern version.
The documentary is hot off the press and under the guise of heavy shit: Don't Fuck with Cats. In any case, the title arouses a lot of curiosity. The Netflix documentary is about Canadian murderer Luka Magnotta: an animal abuser who publishes videos on the internet in which he tortures animals. What a bizarre world we live in sometimes. The documentary also shows that many people are shocked after seeing these videos and they try at all costs to catch the animal executioner.
A wonderful rom-com and therefore immediately falls into the category of women's films. Jenny dreams of a career as a music journalist. This starts to work out nicely when Jenny gets a job at a well-known magazine, with the result that Jenny has to move to the never-boring San Francisco. Her boyfriend doesn't like this and breaks up with her on the grounds that he doesn't feel like a long-distance relationship. Jenny receives a lot of support from her two best friends Erin and Blair, with whom she meets for the last time in New York.
Sherlock is based on the books by Arthur Conan Doyle, you know, the man who came up with a series of Sherlock books in the late 80s. This series has been given a modern look, so our best friend Sherlock has the latest iPhone in the series. Sherlock is set in present-day London, Holmes is an equally brilliant and arrogant man. Together with his loyal friend Watson, who worked as a military doctor during the war in Afghanistan, they solve crimes, murders and disappearances.
One where you can get the handkerchiefs from the stable. Pourqoui? The film is set in Bussy, a commune near Paris. In Nazi-occupied France, Lucille Angellier waits with her stubborn mother-in-law for news from her husband, who is a prisoner of war. When German soldiers arrive in the village, Lucille and her mother-in-law are joined in their home by the successful officer Bruno von Falk. And you guessed it, Lucille develops feelings for the German Bruno.
Who doesn't know it, the film Love Actually. This one falls one hundred percent into the 'golden oldies forever' category. Love Actually tells ten intertwined London love stories and is about a series of short stories that eventually come together again. A film where they have crammed all the good actors and actresses and which will undoubtedly appear on television 2 or 3 times this December, but hey, that one extra Netflix evening is okay.
The Bridge is a Danish-Swedish crime series consisting of 4 episodes that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. And yes, of course, the Scandinavian language takes some getting used to at first, but this is purely a matter of turning the switch and watching. The Bridge does it every time: at the end of the season you think you know who the killer is and then you watch the last episode and it's someone completely different.
If you don't have the patience to watch an entire series, go for the film A cospiracy of faith. Looks a bit like the previously mentioned series The Bridge. The film opens with a forgotten bottle from Scotland containing a barely legible note with the word 'help' found by detective Carl Morck. The bottle is linked to several disappearances of siblings whose parents never reported the children missing. Carl and Assad then throw themselves into the case to solve the mysterious disappearances. Make sure your nails are cut short, because this is another very exciting film.
Be sure to take a look at Netflix because the best man Carl Morck has his own series under the name SerieQ on the streaming service. Five great films with the same team Q.
For the to do list of all the things you need to do while staying indoors. Including Netflix, staying inside, staying inside a little longer and continuing with Netflix. Heavy huh? Especially when you start Tiger king. A spick-and-span new Netflix Original miniseries that you'll want to watch in one breath. Because exciting in the right way and simply strong in the right way. You thought Making a Murderer Good? Then this one is tailor-made for you. While watching the series you will discover that there are more wild tigers held captive in America than there are roaming free around the world. The striking (and wonderfully wrong) Joe exotic owns hundreds of tigers, lions and other wild animals and not everyone around him agrees with this. In this case, that means hiring a killer. For the rest of the story, you'll just have to watch it.
Another nice Scandinavian thriller. Just because they make really good ones there because we love it. Bread ie The Valhalla Murders takes place in beautiful Iceland. An Oslo detective with a painful past returns to Iceland (hello, funny accent) to help a cop search for a serial killer linked to a mysterious photo. The very first serial killer in Iceland, so there is pressure on the case. The murders initially seem to have nothing in common. Until, after a number of intense clues, they discover that there is a link to the abandoned Valhalla boys' home. The most terrible things happened in that same house years ago. Only watch if you can handle it.
They can also make excellent series in Spain. Also Toy Boy is one from the Southern European country that is especially wonderful to just look away. This time the story is about the male stripper Hugo Beltrán. As a stripper he lives the life on the Costa Del Sol and enjoys everything that comes with it. Until the gentleman wakes up, after another night of partying, and there is a burned corpse next to him. The story soon starts to unfold and turns in such a way that Hugo himself becomes a murder suspect, after which he ends up in jail. Seven years later, the protagonist begins to exonerate himself after discovering irregularities in his criminal case.
