When you say Garuda, you say rice tables. The institute was a household name in The Hague for decades. From minister to your grandparents; they have all once sat at a table with a view of the Lange Voorhout and the Hofvijver. While they enjoyed the famous “Indonesian” rice table (actually a bit of a Dutch invention). And let's be honest, old glory doesn't fade away quickly. But with the breath of fresh air that has passed through it after a year of renovations, Garuda by Ron Gastrobar mainly does honor to the famous Garuda stronghold.  Garuda by Ron Gastrobar Indonesia in The Hague is highly recommended for an evening full of Indonesian fusion dishes.

The interior has been beautifully renovated, while retaining the original atmosphere. The well-known mythical bird can even still be found on the old stairs, for those who still long for some pace. At the enormous bar on the ground floor you can sit with your nose to the kitchen and enjoy chef's table. The four (!) floors above feel intimate, with the cocktail bar at the very top catching the eye: the perfect place to start your evening festively with a cocktail.

Fast forward to the food: Bee Garuda by Ron Gastrobar you don't just come for one good old rice table. No! You start here with a delicious snack, for example a Bebek spring roll filled with crispy duck or the taco ajam with a spicy chicken thigh. Don't forget to order an entree, such as the Ikan Dabu – a tartare of Kingfish, soy, tapioca and ginger cream. Once your appetite has been sufficiently stimulated, order a rice table as usual, with the sate kambing being the star of the evening. For satay lovers it is also possible to order an entire tasting.

Fun fact about Garuda: the entire wine list is also worth seeing and trying, something you don't experience too often in oriental restaurants. In addition to a bintang, you can also drink a delicious Grüner Veltliner (just to name a few) that combines very well with the various dishes in terms of freshness (RENDANNNGG!).
