Here's where to drink coffee in Amsterdam – the ultimate list
Good coffee is a profession - and that is why we proudly present the ultimate list of the best places in our capital. After all, for many, not a day goes by without a strong head, a nice ditch aka a cup of coffee. This is the place to be, this is the place to be in Amsterdam for coffee.
Are you in a hurry? These coffee bars have credit take away (with treats!).
Luuk's coffee
This Luuk has one for his business top notch selected spot. Namely the busy Noordermarkt/Westerstraat intersection. Smart! Apart from this nice spot, it certainly attracts a crowd because of its delicious coffees and matchas. At Luuk they use their own blend of beans – which you can also buy. We can also say that it also comes in a very nice bag.
H
Hummingbird is a wonderfully cheerful little place behind the hustle and bustle of Rokin/Dam. Perfect to combine with a day of shopping. The shop is small, but cozy, with several seats at the window and in front of the door.
It is almost impossible to miss it in Amsterdam, because Anne&Max is well represented in six places throughout Amsterdam; Houthavens, Oostenburg, Old WestThe Style Outlet, Zeeburg en in South you find them. And we understand that they are spread out in six places. Because the name alone is inviting to come and chill out, don't you immediately think of a good cup of coffee and chill lounge chairs where you can catch up with your friends? Or work on the laptop, or just quietly read a newspaper. At every branch you just know you're in the right place. Nice place, nice coffee with tasty food and good service. No time (or desire) to sit inside? They also have coffee-to-go with something tasty to-go.
Join
A new, really nice one in the Jordaan. It's nice when you're in the mood for a good one specialty coffee without a row. Nous can be found on a nice corner on Haarlemmerplein. Nice for take out, cozy for sit in.
Rumbaba
Rumbaba is hidden on the always pleasant Elandsgracht. To be honest, we think this is more of a to go then really stop for a sit-down, because there isn't much seating space, but that doesn't make the coffee any less good. Rumbaba's beans are a hit and therefore worth a visit. By the way, they are also good at baking cakes and other goodies, so be sure to grab some with these.
Bocca
Bocca is nice because of its location (sweet little streets, nice shops), but also because of the space in this lovely building. Apart from drinking coffee, you can also come here to work for a few hours. Workshops are also given at Bocca: latte art, barista skills, so on. It's fun!
Saint Jean
Should definitely not be missing from this list. The nice Saint Jean. A winner for delicious coffee, but also for vegan (!) pastries that feel like a gift from heaven.
Priesthood
A funny twist in the list: at Priesthood you enter a bookstore. And you must immediately stand still, you must be in the left corner. You order and sit down on the bench in front of the door or enjoy it to go with it.
Back to Black
In addition to the location with its own roastery, the Weteringschans really stands out. The blue door and windows, the beautiful step and the cozy corner building (anyway: we love corner buildings!). Here you order your matcha latte, your oat cappuccino or your latte at the bar and quickly take a seat at the window to people watch.
Coffee District
Create a all time favorite, which never, ever disappoints. The wonderfully enterprising duo Adil and Rosa started with their first building on Hendrik Jacobszstraat. A beautiful light building with fantastic seating areas and lovely pastries. During corona times, the extremely busy building on Willemsparkweg was added. The whole of Amsterdam now knows where to find the Coffee District, in combination with a tour of Vondelpark.
Scandinavian Embassy
Now located in two locations, with Europaplein as the newest pearl. In contrast to the building in De Pijp, it has its own large bakery - where the most delicious Swedish snacks come out of the oven. This is also a good place for a fresh breakfast, but also for a good filter coffee.
Vinnies
Always a pleasant place, Vinnies on the Scheldestraat. For many, a regular pick-up address for fine coffee and delicious lunches.
Badeta
Always nice to have an address at hand where the nicest shops in Amsterdam are clustered together, aka the Pipe. Badeta is literally crossing the Ceintuurbaan and you imagine yourself in a quieter part of the city. In a kind of cellar you can order the tastiest coffees (to go) and you can get back to it.
Another nice coffee spot in the Pijp – Liev Coffee & Pastry. Right, for all your coffee and sweets needs. layer cake, cinnamon rolls, good coffee. A small, but nice card. You are just outside the hustle and bustle of De Pijp, so take a moment to catch up dear, strolling around drinking coffee and eating cake it is. There aren't really any savory items, but if you're okay with a piece of cake for lunch, then it's great.
Lot 61
Oh, it remains a favorite. The delicious bean from Lot61 is used in many coffee shops and it is just as cozy in the lion's den. At the cozy corner building you can take a seat by the window or on the benches. More good news? If treats they serve goodies from Ulmus bakery here. We cannot think of better advantages. They now have one second Lot61 opened next to Central Station in Doubletree by Hilton, also a great go-to!
Fuku
Deep in BoLo we find Fuku. A cozy coffee shop where many local comes to get his daily dose of energy. Extra fun? The low-key, casual atmosphere, nice seats where you can pull up a stool. And so you can always find a spot.
Selma
This Swedish fine pearl is worth a good break for several reasons. There are cinnamon buns (yes), a lovely interior and fine coffee. The coffee is from Strooker Koffie and definitely worth a walk. Please pay attention, because the branch in West is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
AO Bar
At AO Bar the cleanliness away from it: white with blue walls, light wooden furniture. With good Asian influences. Also a good one to go place for your coffee through the (Wester) park.
Ynk. Coffee
Perhaps the smallest, but definitely not one to be overlooked. Ynk has two tables, but has a lot of regular guests who come for one to go version and then imagine themselves in the busy part. Open every day.
yusu
Own roast en own bakes. Explains it all. The tastiest coffee (from our own bakery) and also home-made nice things to go with it, such as double baked cheesecake with pear, scones. They also deserve a 10 for originality, with the tastiest variations of matcha tea (with a cloud in it in rainy weather) or taro ice cream coffee. Plenty to discover.
Harvey
Watergraafsmeer has gained a nice village coffee spot. Furnishing done by Styling Heroes (I'm sure you know this). Many people come to this nice corner to start the day with a newspaper, but you can also work there or relax kids plugs in the kids corner and grab your moment yourself.
Merciful
A strange coffee shop, in good shape. On the IJ you will find two flights of stairs on Barmkelijk. It is always lively here, because a hairdresser does haircuts and a door further you will find the gym. You can drink your coffee here with a view of the IJ.
4850
There was unrest in the East. Because 4850 stopped drinking coffee and Buns. Uproar. Luckily it was quickly repaired and opened its doors again from Wednesday to Sunday for everything you want from this huge quality tent.
Coffee Bru
Create a all time favorite that never gets boring. Probably because of the village character. From young to old come here. For an Americano or flat white, there is something for everyone. Eriks is a good neighbor here, you can go there before/after for a crispy croissant or a tasty cheese.
Public space
Minimalist, sleek and modern. That is Public Space. Immediately upon entering there is a prominent bar with a beast of a coffee machine. Sit down on the sofas or lounge chairs and order that delicious coffee. Within a 5-minute walk from the ferry.
Rather Here
Perhaps the most beautiful building in Amsterdam North. The greenery decorates the entire facade and makes it a pleasure for the eyes. At Liever Hier they bake cakes with coffee, 100% plant-based. They open from Friday to Sunday, making this the perfect getaway for a drizzly day or sunny weekend morning.
Pompet
Nothing to complain about – Pompet in the Noorderpark. On the terrace in summer or warm inside in winter. The coffee is delicious and you can definitely recharge here, in nature.
Bread bakery Ex
The nicest in North. Because a good combination, if you ask us. Bread, fresh from Ex, and recently included White label coffee. Can't miss it. Take a seat on the steps at a table and watch people come to pick up their sandwiches.
