The location is, however, secondary once you are inside. Necchi Architecture, the duo Charlotte Albert and Alexis Lamenta, delved into the seventies and nineties and created an interior unlike any other. Mirrored columns, lacquered wall coverings, and vintage furniture reference a circle of avant-garde artists such as Yves Saint Laurent and Serge Gainsbourg. Velvet in leopard, green, and ochre yellow, leopard-print chairs, yellow-and-white tiled bathroom walls, and a touch of stainless steel to top it all off. The result is a über-cool hotel. Not flashy, but sophisticated like only they can do it in Paris.

The 34 rooms have been thought out down to every detail. Carpeting in places where you wouldn't expect it: on your bedside table, on the cabinets in general, and of course on the floor, in both color and leopard print. Once again executed in a façon Super cool. The atmosphere is more boudoir and intimate than light and airy. And we love love love it.

Smells good? More than good! Thanks to Diptyque, with whom the hotel collaborates. That is more than just one shower. And the icing on the cake: the bed is soft, the pillows softer, and the blanket the softest. Sleeping like a baby.

Breakfast is served in the looking but equally stylish breakfast room: think of a variety of pastries, crispy baguette, French cheeses, fresh juice, and steaming coffee. Prefer your room? Call number 9 on the old-fashioned rotary phone, and a few minutes later there will be a knock on the door. Start of the day, sorted.

And as if the hotel hadn't had enough already: there's also a gym in the basement. Same handwriting, same result: super cool.

The neighborhood is lively and diverse: Faubourg Saint-Denis is undergoing rapid development, with new hospitality venues and a distinct street culture. It has a raw edge. Authentic Paris, unfiltered. Hôtel Château d'Eau offers a distinctive alternative to the more generic Parisian hotel market.
