From fundraising to donating items for Ukraine
Make love, not war! We all want nothing more than for the invasion of Ukraine to stop. Although the situation can sometimes make you feel powerless, relief efforts are on the rise. A collection campaign for Ukraine, an art print sale or children going door to door with a homemade blue and yellow collection box are heart-warming to see. Fundraisers to which we are more than happy to contribute. We see the wonderful relief efforts passing by on social media and we will collect them here. Donate, help or set up a fundraising campaign for Ukraine yourself.

Pictures for Purpose is one of the impressive fundraisers for Ukraine. In brief: From March 10 to 22 you can buy a cool print from one of the photographers and 75% to 100% of the proceeds go to World Central Kitchen (WCK). This non-profit organization provides fresh meals in eight border areas of Ukraine.
Renowned photographers and emerging talent from home and abroad sell their images as prints. Artists from the Netherlands are also participating, such as Rineke Dijkstra and Inez & Vinoodh. The majority of photographers who participate donate all proceeds to World Central Kitchen. Some of the participating photographers (mainly from Ukraine and Russia) choose to receive 25% of the proceeds, with which they can help their own family and friends.
A print costs €125 and can be ordered here.

Speaking of initiatives that make our hearts beat faster in all areas: @lukasfrompoland has one of those: Given that the situation in Ukraine is dire, LGBT+ people were already incredibly vulnerable to the attack and now they are even more at risk of human rights violations by Russian forces. Kyiv Pride, Insight and other partner organizations are providing support to get LGBT+ people out of the country safely and provide essential resources to those who need to stay. If you want to help them, donate whatever you can spare via this site: All Out
Op March 20 the initiators organize a bake sale at Carmen Amsterdam, together with some of the nicest/best catering establishments in Amsterdam. Coffee, wine, sandwiches and other delicacies prepared and the proceeds will of course go to the above organization. If you would like to bake, prepare something or become a donor, send an email to acooksforu@gmail.com.

The collection campaigns for Ukraine in Haarlem continue steadily. Twice a week, vans with diapers, medicines and sleeping bags drive to the border region. They even received an ambulance donated and taken to Ukraine. In addition to bringing items yourself, you can also donate money so that they can buy and take the items they need at that moment.
The next project from this successful collection is a temporary store where refugee Ukrainians can shop for free. If you work for a brand and can donate leftover stock, they will be very happy to do so. Even if it's only ten pieces. The municipality of Haarlem has made the former V&D building available for the store and it would be nice if refugee families could come and shop for a moment without any worries.
Contact Haarlem Fundraising Campaign for all questions and donations.
- Go to Plantation country estate in Vogelenzang and order a carafe of water (or 8). They temporarily cost €2,50 and the money goes to giro 555. Donating has never been easier/tastier and more fun. Plus: Buitenplaats Plantage calls on all catering establishments to participate and we completely agree!
- Designer Saskia Juliette created a beautiful artwork that can be purchased via a digital download for €1. All proceeds go to the Haarlem Fundraising Campaign.
It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it.
There are numerous citizen initiatives by people who have direct lines with organizations on the Ukrainian border or in Ukraine. Several times a week, vans drive to the region to deliver what is requested. There is a need for warm clothing, clean socks, baby carriers, diapers, sleeping bags, etc. Everything of course in new or good condition.
At the collections you can find all information about the items that are most needed at that moment. When you buy new stuff, it is useful if you buy a lot of stuff from one item. For example, a whole box of canned soup or a whole box of diapers, instead of a box of one soup, two paracetamol, one toothpaste.
Op this map you will find an overview all collection points throughout the Netherlands. On the site of UN Refugee Agency read what else you can do.
- If you have a spare (garden) house or room, you can inquire about offering temporary shelter for refugees from Ukraine. TakecareBnb en RoomforUkraine can guide you in this. Also Host a Sister helps refugees find shelter.
- This Polish organization helps the injured from Ukraine.
- Many Ukrainians want to work in the Netherlands immediately. The government has made it possible for them to work here immediately. Through an employment agency, UA Talents of Jobs for Ukraine you can offer work throughout Europe.
- You can donate through small, local initiatives or larger organizations such as Turn555, UNHCR . Red Cross.
- Airbnb: the use of the giant AirBnB platform is twofold. On the one hand, the platform calls for booking a house (or an experience! That's also possible) in Ukraine. You will of course not go (please send that comment in a message with your booking), but the amount of your reservation will be credited to the people who have had to leave their homes at that time. On the other hand, AirBnB offers shelter to 100.000 refugees in the houses offered on the platform. How and what exactly, and how you can participate yourself, you read here.
- Etsy: You can also buy (digital) items from Ukrainian suppliers via Etsy and indicate in the comments that you do not need to receive the items. Etsy has promised that Ukrainian users will not have to pay fees for their shop. This is a great method to get money directly from Ukrainians, but there are now reports of scammers who do not live in the affected country at all. Etsy has some a special page made for.
