Go big or go home so is the saying let's go. There are several wine villages in Piedmont that are worth visiting. To be fair, Barolo; is surely the most iconic, where you will find the most beautiful, smallest wineries. 

Barolo wines come in different styles. Modern and classic is the easiest division and there is something to be said for both.

In the south of Lombardia you will find Lake Garda. For some, of course, just too touristy, for others it is an ideal holiday destination, with the small group for example. But okay, just to the point Near Lake Garda there is a wine region that makes wines in Champagne style and has its own designation of origin. Namely: Franciacorta.

The Abruzzo, the 'region' of natural beauty, as the Italians themselves say. The 'Gran Sasso' nature park, where you can easily encounter a brown bear, is located in this area. And also beautiful lakes, such as Lake Barrea, Lake Campotosto and Lake Bomba. Picture perfect hills and the Apennine Mountains where the vineyards stretch endlessly.

The Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (white grape variety) comes from this region and has unfairly received a less good name. Due to (over)production and kitchen wines. But here too there is a grandmaster. In this case producer Valentini. Not only for its white wines, but also red and rosé. Barts sommelier speaking: the rosé is highly recommended. A wine of which the different vintages are on my tasting palette as a superlative to the light Provence Rosé without cracking or taste! What? Just a damn tasty rosé.

These types of wines are quite expensive in the Netherlands (from 85 euros) but that makes it even better at the winery itself (you can taste them all for 9 euros). Also nice, one wine tasting at Valentini winery.
