Kings, dukes, knights, princes, and princesses once slept here: now it's our turn to feast your eyes like royalty. A collection of the most beautiful castles and estates to explore for a day or to enjoy a wonderful overnight stay. This is pure luxury.
In beautiful Olst you will find De Haere Castle. Hidden in the greenery and within walking distance of the IJssel you will find this pearl with an English landscaped garden. Wonderful for a day of walking around in the nearby nature, viewing the largest sundial in Europe or visiting the bunkers of the post-war IJssel Line. You return to the castle for a high tea, glass of wine or a royal arrangement. Peering from the terrace over the moat, you can immediately plan that future wedding.
To sleep like a king, you need to visit Bilderberg hotels. Especially those housed in castles. Bilderberg has two castles, both in Limburg. This magnificent Château Holtmühle is located in Tegelen, near Venlo. The castle boasts two restaurants: Alde Heerlickheijt and d'Orangerie, as well as more than enough rooms. The menu features primarily French cuisine with Limburg and Eastern influences – we love that.
From vineyard to baroque garden and from marl cave to chic salons: Chateau Neercanne It has it all. Literally, because since March 2024, you can now also stay overnight in one of the seven exceptionally luxurious suites. Another bonus: all rooms can be reserved exclusively or in combination. At the table, you'll have another oh-so-wonderful moment: the Michelin-starred restaurant, Restaurant Château Neercanne. Or you can dine at L'Auberge, a Bib Gourmand winner. The atmospheric marl caves, lit by candlelight, are the icing on the (wedding) cake: a truly unique setting.
Duin & Kruidberg Estate deserves a moment. Because lord (lame, sorry): what a beautiful Dutch castle this is. Plus hotel, plus restaurant, plus spa. Can it get any better?! Not normally beautiful with those shutters, cute facades, stairs and turrets. Not to even start about the land bordering the castle walls. Once upon a time there was a Duin estate and a Kruidberg estate, just put the two together, and There you go. This created a noteworthy and worth-seeing spot to admire.
Keukenhof Castle is a household name, which is understandable, as we don't know anyone who doesn't know Keukenhof, the pride of the Netherlands. The castle on the estate is worth admiring, but there are all sorts of other interesting things to see and do around it. For example, there's the LAM museumAll the artworks in the LAM Museum have something to do with food, drink, and shopping. Ordinary topics you encounter every day. A common theme, but a special collection. The LAM Museum boasts the largest collection of food art in the world.
There's also a beautiful garden with a charming farmhouse, and after exploring all that beauty, you can enjoy a bite to eat in the farmhouse. Always a pleasure.
Hattem Castle we want to spontaneously get married (again). Hattem Castle is – you guessed correctly – a sweet castle (fun fact: smallest in the Netherlands) in nice Hattem. You can sleep there, get married if you want, you can dine there and enjoy the lovely terraces. With the sun shining, it is wonderful to relax among the centuries-old trees.
Hoogenweerth Castle An incredibly beautiful castle rises on the banks of the Maas. Picture perfect is an understatement to say the least. Fairytale, even. The stained glass is in abundance, brick walls left open and exposed, heavy stairs, countless balconies: we can't stop talking about it. Especially because it also leaves you with a place to sleep. And especially because the entire castle can be rented privately (for 357(!) people). That's not going to happen now, of course. But remember and who knows what the future will bring.
Maurick Castle, wow. At Maurick, you can eat, sleep, meet, and get married exceptionally well. got it all. This fantastic castle is located close to Den Bosch, somewhere hidden between the trees. You walk into the attractive courtyard via a real drawbridge. Here you will find the brasserie 'Catharina van Maurick' and the a la carte restaurant 'Hendrik van Maurick'. Not just a fabrication, but as a kind of tribute to the former residents of the castle in 1421 (!). In addition to the gourmet food, you can roll straight into bed. You can sleep wonderfully in one of the three fairytale suites. Oh yes, it's not just the suites that are fairytale-like; the wedding location (in the castle garden) has everything for an ultimate dream wedding.
In the wooded surroundings of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, you'll find Kasteel Kerckebosch. For a delicious international snack or drink (or both, of course!), stop by Bistoria. From Eastern to Mediterranean, there's something for everyone. Preferably a little... laid back enjoy a cocktail? Then plop down in an armchair in the Bar & Lounge. Had enough (or a little too much) to drink? Don't worry! You can also sleep in the castle. And that's a nice game. There is no shortage of knightly comfort, a bit of luxury and cozy furnishings.
