Now that's really fun: Children's Music Week from April 1 to 10, 2022
Here it is, the tip that should be music to the ears of anyone with children, from musical to musical and everything in between: the Children's music week. Say what? The Children's Music Week 2022. That is, in short, just like the Children's Book Week, but with music. Even more fun: during Children's Music Week you can visit live musical events in various cities throughout the country, classified by age of your children, in places where you might otherwise not go (so quickly). But - one of the positive things that the lockdowns have brought us - there are also all kinds of great performances online. A concert for 4-year-olds in the Amsterdam concert hall? Consider it done. Want to sing along from the couch with your toddler? Can! date night with your teenager? Yes please.
Put it in your diary: from April 1 to 10, 2022, it will be music for ten days. Live music for all children from 0 to 12 years old to be precise. Because music connects. Music makes you happy. Music is playful. Music is, in fact, almost a fundamental right that all children should (be allowed to) be taught at a young age. Even (or especially) if fathers and mothers are not (so) musical. Everywhere in the Netherlands, from concert halls and theaters to the gymnasiums of schools and daycare centers, from libraries to neighborhood squares, your child can come into contact with music. And yes, that is indeed in the broadest sense of the word. Learn to DJ like a pro, roar along to the sock puppet concert, fly along to the sounds of large orchestras or learn to make and play your own instrument.
Sounds like a plan, right? We think so now too. And if the lockdowns have brought us anything, it is how we can make optimal use of the online world. The Children's Music Week also knows: your offspring can not only join in on location, there is also plenty to do from home.
The Children's Music Week has fifteen partners and more than eighty participants who want all children to experience a week full of live music. That's a lot of parties and so an overarching theme is useful (something with a red line and such). There is, and it's a good one: friends.
After all, what could be more fun than listening or making music with your friends? The Children's Music Week song 'Me and You' was created in collaboration with educational partner 123ZING. The song was written by Jan Groenteman in collaboration with Eric Robillard and Freek Koopmans and fits in well with the theme. And extra fun, 'Me and You' is sung by Ayana, winner of the Junior Song Contest 2021. Bam.
The song and all extras are here available for free.
The opening will take place in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam and can be followed on April 1 via a semi-livestream. There will be performances by youth music company Oorkaan, Combo Quintuple, Waterland Music School and Ayana.
