The nicest thrift stores in Amsterdam

Although you often find the best treasures in small villages, even in Amsterdam there are thrift shops where you can make good money. How? Often you go and are lucky. Knowing where to look also helps, of course. These are the nicest thrift stores in Amsterdam.

The Neighborhood Cycle

There are several thrift stores in the Indische Buurt, but... The Neighborhood Cycle is definitely a favorite. In 2021, Sophie opened her store in Javastraat. The Buurtkringloop is more than 'just' a shop, it is also a meeting place for local residents. Various neighborhood connection events are regularly organized. From dance workshops, to game nights, to spoon-making workshops. These events are (partly) financed with the proceeds from the favorites rack. A curated rack with vintage, high-end and designer items that is replenished every Thursday morning. A cozy place in a pleasant street. Closed on Mondays, but open almost every Sunday.

Cycle West

Cycle West looks like a vintage store, but still uses thrift store prices. Best of both worlds. The store is spacious and very neat, with clothes hanging by type and color. This makes it look a lot less overwhelming than the average thrift store, so this is also a good one for the novice thrift store. Kringloop West works with an upholsterer, furniture restorer and bicycle repair shop (they also sell handsome retro racing bikes) who can help you patch up your finds. You can also rent a cargo bike there for €25 per day.

Kringloop Kerkstraat

Most of the thrift stores in this list are located outside the center, but... Kringloop Kerkstraat is in the middle of it. In the Kerkstraat, on the side of the Utrechtsestraat. The store is quite small and cramped, but they managed to cram a surprising amount into the small building. In general, the items are reasonably priced, with an exception here and there. In any case, a lot cheaper than most shops in Utrechtsestraat. But hey, it's all about the balance.

RataPlan

RataPlan is a chain of thrift stores with three locations in Amsterdam. The offer varies, just like the prices. Every now and then there is a mega sale where some of the clothing is sold for half the price or one euro. There's a lot of junk in there, so you have to be able to handle it. In addition to clothing, books, crockery and other small items, RataPlan also sells large furniture, unlike most other stores on this list. The shops are a bit remote but are easily accessible by metro. It stops right in front of the door (Isolatorweg stop) of the branch on Generatorstraat, where they also have a coffee corner.

Cycle Church & Neighborhood

Cycle Church & Neighborhood is a small but nice store near the Westerpark, around the corner from the Nassaukerk. The volunteers who keep the business running are friendly and helpful and the offering is generally good. Inside it's a bit messy, but in a good way. Just the way we like to see it in a thrift store. If we had to mention a downside, it would be that the store is closed on weekends.

Muna

At the time of writing, there is only one cycle in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, fortunately it is a good one. Muna was founded by four women who wanted to create connection, involvement and a feeling of home in the neighborhood. This has been achieved with a store in Lola Luid, a creative breeding ground in a former school. Besides shopping cheaply, you can also drink coffee cheaply. This is one of the few places where you can drink an (oat) cappuccino for less than three euros. If you want, even with a vegan sausage roll or apple pie. To ensure that everyone can donate items, they are working on crowdfunding for a cargo bike, so that they can collect donations in a sustainable way. We think it's great.
