Camping in the Netherlands: these are the best campsites
Summer has officially started again. In other words: the camping season is in full swing. Time to go find the pegs and poles and pitch the tent. Time for some lovely camping. Or should we go for a luxury chalet somewhere in nature instead? Anyway, the choice is vast. Here, in any case, is a list of the best campsites in the Netherlands.

At Camping The Small World In Onnen, just south of Groningen, you can stay with your own camper, caravan, or tent. The spacious camping pitches are situated amidst greenery. Don't feel like lugging pegs and poles around yourself? Then choose one of the unique accommodations, such as the Swedish cottages, the Hobbit Tent House, or the Africa Dome.
The campsite is situated in a quiet location, close to the city of Groningen. This allows you to combine nature with a visit to the city. There is plenty of entertainment for children, including a swimming pool, football pitch, nature playground, and fire pit. You can settle down at Bistro Landing for a bite to eat or a drink. It is a lovely spot to completely unwind.
(Bartje) Heart GreenA delightful campsite, tucked away among the trees in the De Maashorst nature reserve in Brabant, with catering straight out of a winter fireplace storybook. And summer campfires. At De Boshut, you can enjoy plenty of tasty treats every day: from a delicious lunch to generous charcuterie boards featuring regional products. Coffee with incredibly tasty pastries, dozens of refreshing beers, and fine wines. And if you like sausage: real Brabant sausage rolls.
On the way to Den Bosch (there is number three on the list) a quick stop at the Dommel. Because that is where Nanda and Laurens have been working together with their kids since 2019 The Wild RoadOn the estate stands a long-gabled farmhouse from 1870 and various charming buildings. You can leave your own tent at home; fortunately, it is absolutely no problem to spend the night in one of the accommodations: De Pipo, Het Balinese Huisje, or one of the other accommodations.
It was all a dream. In 2021, a group of friends were at a traditional campsite. With traditional chalets. And a traditional snack bar. The ideas came up around the campfire: why not a creative, vibrant, hip(er) city campsite? When they found a spot on the water in the middle of Den Bosch came across, they were there like a shot. This was where it had to happen. And yes, a few years and quite a few plans later, the first camping season is about to start. From the summer of 2025, the site of City camping Overboord full of campers: with their own tent, caravan or trailer tent – or in one of the tiny houses en glamping vans that are already ready for you.
Tiengemeten, you either know it or you don't, probably the latter. Long story short: that is an island near Rotterdam with greenery, water and even more greenery. And a very nice place to become zen, go for a good walk and... to just enjoy life. That nice place, that is Tiny Parks. Camping the way we like it best; not in the mud with a leaking tent and an increasingly deflating air mattress, but in glamping style.
At Camping de Vliert feels like you are far from the city, while you are only twenty minutes by bike from Utrecht. And that bike is definitely recommended if you do not plan to hang around at the campsite all day - although that is also wonderful, especially when you are staying in a glamping accommodation with a box spring. Start your day on the pedals for a delicious sourdough bread from the bakery of Restaurant Vroeg, where you can also sit down for dinner in the evening. Another tip is restaurant Bij Teus in Houten. In the nice neighboring hiking area Nieuw-Wulven, Restaurant Wereld van Weelde opened in the spring of 2025. At the campsite itself you can seek out the coziness in the living room or retreat to your own tent, dome or gypsy wagon.
Camping City and Country is a small-scale, beautiful campsite in Ommeren and everything you need for a portion of coziness. Nice with the little stuff, but also nice without. Everything completely without obligation (eating together is allowed, looking for coziness is also certainly, but nothing is mandatory) and everything is taken care of down to the last detail.
Oosterbeek Rhine bank It is located in Oosterbeek, near Arnhem. You can reserve a pitch for your tent or spend the night in a cozy gypsy wagon, retro caravan, or a boat on the shore. For smaller tents, there are a number of beautiful spots by the water. This location on the Rhine is one of the reasons to put this campsite on your list. In the summer, the weirs are closed, meaning there is no strong current and you can therefore swim safely in the river. The small beaches located near the campsite are only accessible to camping guests, so it remains relatively quiet even on hot days.
Our Outside This is a lovely spot in Zeeland where young and old can enjoy a week (or weekend) away. Bringing your own tent is no problem; you can also book a studio or cottage. This campsite is a huge playground for the little ones. They can romp all over the grounds thanks to various play equipment and get creative in the mud kitchen. And while the kids are busy, parents can enjoy the sun on the garden terrace, the wellness facilities with a sauna and steam bath, or take yoga classes. Of course, that is just as possible if you aren't a parent.
In any case, we would like to travel into the Far North with the small stuff (just read here), and it is therefore not surprising that you will also find very nice campsites there. Like It Dreamlân – a supreme combination of traditional Dutch and down-to-earth Frisian and, indeed, a camping dream. You can choose here: do you go for die-hard nature camping? Or do you do it in the most chic way and go for the glamping tents? There are even holiday homes and a lovely family home, although of course these options have nothing to do with camping at all. A dream location, not far from Lauwersmeer National Park and the Wadden Sea.
