Praia, the capital of Cape Verde on the island of Santiago, isn't a city you visit for the culinary spectacle. But if you do a bit of searching (or have this list handy), you'll find some great spots for breakfast, lunch, or just a good coffee. From avocado toast to pastel de nata, and from bookstores with surprising food to Cape Verdean comfort food: these are our favorite spots to settle down during the day in Praia.
The only place in Praia that's completely vegan. Here you'll find creative plant-based versions of Cape Verdean and international dishes: think seitan wraps, vegan cachupa, smoothie bowls, salads, and homemade cakes. Everything is organic, made with local ingredients, and absolutely delicious.

The name might make you think you should go here for a different kind of green (which only works that way in the Netherlands), but no… here it's all about vegetables, fruit, and fresh juices. And that's something that's not the case everywhere in Cape Verde.
Besides smoothies and juices, they also serve filling meals. Think avocado toast, granola with fresh tropical fruit, and hearty rice dishes with fish that will keep you going for hours.

Inside, everything is simple and cozy: warm yellow walls, an old piano, and local art on the walls. On weekends, musicians often play, transforming Café Sofia into a mini concert venue.
