Barts Best of: Taqueria Bacalar, Amsterdam North
We were already there smitten by Coba Taqueria, also in Amsterdam North, also Mexican (yo), opened on the other side of North (or well: on the other side of the Van der Pekbuurt) Taqueria Bacalar. The comparison with Coba is not strange: the chef who is cooking delicious Mexican food here, started at Coba. But now it's his own business and let's be honest: he took the magic of Coba with him to his own Taqueria Bacalar.
Taqueria Bacalar in Amsterdam North: DO IT. The vibe is nice and rough and dark, the hood is the place to be (restaurant Corner store is the neighbor, just like Pizzeria Poppy, both favorites). Oh, and also Comet Bread Café is around the corner. Pure profit, this corner in Amsterdam Noord. Back to Taqueria Bacalar, where the tacos are what you call to die for . Classics such as tacos al pastor gone super duper good, just like the tacos cochinita. Oh well, we can actually be very brief about it: our Mexican table companion said this about it: “this was the first time I had really good Mexican food outside Mexico, that actually tasted Mexican”. And we can do it with that. And: don't forget to order coffee from your table companion: the chili truffle that comes with it is a gift!
