The Gate is the finest cinema in Notting Hill, London

Sometimes there is nothing as nice as plopping down in a cinema seat and not having to think about anything for two hours. Now it's in London enough choice in terms of cinemas. Do you go for a large chain that offers a luxurious cinema experience or do you opt for an independent, small cinema? One of our favorite cinemas is The Gate in Notting Hill. Book your ticket in advance, because this is where you want to recover from a day of strolling and shopping with all the love and pleasure.

The location

The location

This cinema is part of picture House and has several branches throughout England. The cinema opened in Notting Hill in 1911 and from the outside it doesn't look like the prettiest cinema you've ever seen. Appearances can be deceiving: you enter a room that you are surprised by. Red walls, gold-colored details and comfortable chairs. This is the place to be for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the streets. It's almost a shame that the lights go out, because there is plenty of beauty to see in the hall. There is no such thing as the massive feeling you get at the large cinema chains in London (just try to find room 15 or the toilets in those cinemas). The Gate feels familiar and strangely enough you immediately feel at home in this special place.

On the program

On the program

You won't easily see big blockbuster films on the program here. Well you can award-winning films that come straight from the famous film festivals. Because there is only one room, the program is limited. Nevertheless, this cinema is the perfect choice. It's nice and quiet there, with plenty of room, so there's a good chance that a smacking guy won't be sitting next to you (unless that smacking guy is your company). Anyway, for good films, delicious popcorn and a centrally located cinema, The Gate in Notting Hill is the place to be. When the film is over and you leave the cinema with small eyes, you will be at the Notting Hill Gate metro stop within a minute.
