In Montauk, a town in the Hamptons, beach hotel The Surf Lodge is located, one of the most popular places for New York surf dudes and boho babes. Popular yes; reservations must be made months in advance (there are only nineteen rooms) but then you have something - a colorful room 'done' by a local (read: spoiled, not necessarily talented with a preference for vulgar white latex) artist. From Monday to Thursday there is mainly surfing and hanging out on the private terraces at the lodges, of course with a hammock and a beautiful view of the sunset and the Bay of Montauk. Mainly by people who have no (room) reservation at all, so that is also possible.

Things get going on weekends – if you want to go to bed early, bring earplugs. There are quite a few negative reviews about The Surf Lodge. Well, okay, okay, maybe we thought it was a bit too hipper and too much about seeing and being seen, but secretly we also really liked it, for a while. The Surf Lodge
