Beach Read, an appropriate title. Even if you are not on the beach, this book is a great read. January writes feelgood novels, Gus writes literary, heavy material. What do they have in common? A gigantic one writer's block. When the two writers move in next door to each other, they make a bet. They have to write each other's book before the end of the summer. And above all, don't fall in love with each other. Three guesses.
If you're a fan of 'There Where the Crayfish Sing', 'Go Like a River' should definitely be on your reading list. The book starts in 1948 and takes you through the life of Victoria, who grows up in the mountains of Colorado but leaves her hometown after a forbidden love and a tragic loss. Raw, beautiful, powerful. Not fluffy read, one that will stay with you for a long time.
A baby was abandoned on an idyllic island off the Australian coast 70 years ago. Sisters Rose and Connie found the baby and eventually raised her as their own. The unsolved mystery made their island famous overnight. When Connie dies many years later, more about the 'secret' is shared little by little. Exciting, but also light-hearted and funny. And just when you think you know how it's going to end, you get a huge surprise.
