In the heart of Rome, you'll find the family-run Buccone Vini e Olii, a household name since 1969 and the first wine shop in the city to serve fine wines by the glass. A cozy wine bar and shop where the atmosphere is as pure as the wines they serve. As you sit down at a simple table, the family around you chats. About wine, of course. Or just about their daily family adventures. Who knows?

The walls? They're lined with bottles from top to bottom, left to right, as far as the eye can see. A true paradise for any wine lover. While the name suggests they also sell olive oil, we were particularly drawn to the impressive wine selection. We enjoyed a particularly delicious red, Roggio del Filare 2019: full-bodied, creamy, and with a subtle hint of spice and chocolate. Perfect with a cheese platter, carpaccio, and some fresh bread.

We popped into Il Goccetto for a quick drink and ended up staying. This casual wine bar is tucked away in one of Rome's cozy backstreets. It's all about authentic Italian wines, a welcoming atmosphere, and a delicious mix of wines. locals and tourists.

What makes Il Goccetto so special? The fresh snacks, prepared on-site and available directly from the display case, perfectly matched to your glass. Il Goccetto exudes authenticity, simplicity, and a passion for a good glass and good company.

Inside, shelves overflow with bottles, and where there are no shelves, the walls are clad in the wood of countless wine crate lids. It truly breathes wine here, with an impressive selection from prestigious houses and small producers.

Organic, rare, Italian, or international – the choice is endless. And as it should be: food should complement wine, not the other way around. Think salumi, top-quality cheeses, and warm Roman dishes, all fresh and seasonal.
