Farm-to-table at restaurant Zacht Staal in Beverwijk

Wait a minute, a roadside restaurant and farm-to-table and a must visit? That is a very unusual combination. Mild Steel is a greenhouse restaurant on the Rorik estate. Open during the sunny, fertile months when food from the land lands directly on your plate (albeit after some input from the chef). Opened a few years ago and an instant hit (so popular with people from the capital that a special bus sets out every weekend).

Go back ten gears and live with what the country gives us. Bee Mild Steel They do it. When the land yields beautiful ingredients (with their hands in the soil daily), at Zacht Staal they put honest and fresh dishes on the table. The principle of farm-to-table means cooking with what comes from their own land or greenhouse. At Landgoed Rorik, they are building a sustainable future where agriculture, nature, and recreation come together. At Zacht Staal, they process what is grown on the estate into delicious dishes. Growing, harvesting, cooking, eating, repeat. The menu? Lots of vegetables, sometimes some meat, fish, and cheeses. And you sit in a super cozy setting in the greenhouse, where you immediately feel completely at one with nature.

At the helm is Kees Elfring; he owns both restaurants (for a last-minute dinner out or a “lighter” bite, be sure to check out Bistro Soft Steel) started with love in this beautiful part of Beverwijk. You can therefore expect a lot from the menu. For example, you can choose between 5 or 6 courses with delicious accompanying wines.

Furthermore, it is advisable to reserve in advance, as the restaurant is only open during the warmer months and closes for the winter. Zacht Staal is open from Thursday to Saturday. And you are sure to enjoy it!
