For those who are familiar with Delft, it will be Post office, Barbarian en Kek sound familiar... (Don't you? Don't worry, just click on those names for more, or read about what old classics from Delft. But in addition to those names, a lot of pearls have now been added that we would like to tell you about. One a bit newer than the other, but all certainly worth mentioning. Are they coming:
You've barely left the train station before you find a place to sit down for a while. Anne&Max in Delft is perfect for anyone looking for a moment of peace and escape. The name alone invites you to come and chill out, don't you immediately think of a good cup of coffee and chill lounge chairs where you can catch up with your friends? At least we do and that is exactly the case Anne&Max. A nice place to start the day with an extensive breakfast, for a coffee moment or a high tea. Would you rather discover the historic city center? You can take coffee-to-go and treats-to-go with you. So easy!
Fabio Cappelano thought it was high time for something different in Delft, and so Il Tarfufo was born: The Truffle is an osteria/delicatessen in Delft (and can now also be found in Breda, partly led by his daughter Chiara). Fabio is a Sicilian-Indian Dutchman who once settled in Delft for love. This restaurant only uses beautiful Italian Sicilian ingredients and Fabio has an enormous passion for real Italian cuisine. For a moment you will not imagine yourself in Delft, nor in the Netherlands, but in Sicily. We couldn't make it more little escape'ish. Ciao!
In the Agneta Park – speaking of hidden places by the way, good morning! - sit Near & Far hidden. The Agneta Park looks like a film set, or well, it seems... #funfact for the parents with small children among us: the film Dolfje Weerwolfje was partly filmed here. Definitely worth a visit. And while you're there... Heinde & Ver is a franchise chain, but there is nothing wrong with that in this beautiful monumental building. Actually all you can eat but a bit chic, with a choice of dishes from steak tartare to poke bowl and smoked duck breast to seaweed bitterballs.
If we don't go to Naples, Naples will simply come to us. At Pizza Beppe, you'll eat authentic Neapolitan pizzas: handmade dough, San Marzano tomatoes straight from the Vesuvius region, and Fior di Latte that's truly exceptional.
The atmosphere? 'Cool & fine dining'. Culture, music, lifestyle, and pizza from top-notch brick ovens. Add a generous dose of craftsmanship and passion, and you're good to go. It's no wonder they were the first in the Netherlands to officially receive the designation. Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) quality mark – no concessions, only authentic.
At Pizza Beppe, you eat pizza the way pizza is meant to be. With 25 locations throughout the country, there is always a spot to pull up a chair, and in Delft, you can do so at the Markt. Bon appetite!
Located at the Agnetapark in Delft, you will find miss mandy. A trendy restaurant where you can enjoy an evening for a fixed amount and choose from 44 dishes. All dishes can be shared and are often vegan and vegetarian, but with a different twist. The owner Mexc Francken wants to show with his business that vegetarian food is just as tasty as all other dishes with meat or fish. Where the name comes from? Named after his younger sister, who has been eating less meat since she was little.
At Johannes café, on the Voldersgracht in the center, you can enjoy bagels, pancakes and cookies. Named after the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, in the former birthplace of Vermeer. Almost everything on the menu is homemade and intended as a sweet, tasty snack. Besides the cozy building where you can sit, they also have a very nice outdoor garden. Or spend a night in the adjacent hotel Johannes.
In Delft you will find many gems that do things a little differently, including: Cozy. Bruna Avena and Emilio Bouzan are the owners and moved from Brazil to the Netherlands four years ago with their daughter and two cats. Initially just for study, but they decided to stay and opened restaurant Cozy at the Oude Delft.
Here you just have to feel good and at home. The menu includes various lunch and brunch dishes such as all day bites with French toast, pancakes, vegetarian lasagna and empanadilla, with an occasional hint to their roots.
You will also find Alani on the Oude Delft. Just a nice place, not too much fuss in the interior, but just cozy. They have a shared dining concept plus a cocktail bar where you can choose from tiki cocktails and various 'Asian infused' dishes to share. On the menu you will find classic cocktails, no hangover cocktails (always handy, the 0.0%, and often just as tasty!), but also a painkiller with dark rum, pineapple, orange and coconut syrup. You can certainly join us for dinner, and that's just fine. There is a huge choice of different snacks with other options; oysters, Aloha fries, Pimientos, Baby octopus or rather Bimi with Burrata. Just a nice place where you immediately feel welcome and you don't have to do too much, but you are allowed to do a lot.
'It's past twelve o'clock somewhere in the world...' Good introduction, to quote Hanno's owners straight away. It warms us up. Proud of its bar with special wines, beers and soft drinks from all over the world, the whole of Hanno shines towards you. A busy, cheerful intention here. Souvenirs, cushions and figurines everywhere from all over the world, collected by owners Kim & Hugo on their travels. Everything has a story, and Kim found much of the interior on Marktplaats. Cosy, homely intention, there at Hanno. But at Hanno not only souvenirs are collected, ho, ho, the name comes from an explorer for a reason... They mainly collect local dishes from kitchens all over the world. From South Africa, Mexico and Thailand, to Sri Lanka and Peru. Street food to share. You can get Mexican Quesedillas, but also bao buns from South Korea. And all this wonderfully under the cheerful parasols on Delft's sheltered Doelenplein. And then we haven't even started about the cheerful specialty beers and the Smokey Drug Lord cocktail (with Mezcal)… Go see it, taste it!
Not really in the old building the Gist, but close by and with a view. And the atmosphere is no less. The perfect drinks café with small dishes to share. Plus a burger of the week every week to write home about. Impressive combinations from the chef (a French bun with grilled eggplant and brie, or soy sauce glazed beef with coconut, for example, have already been discussed). The glass facade of De Gist can be completely opened, and in the summer this gives you many beautiful sunsets with one of the fifteen tap beers in your hand.
We were immediately fans of Lot, a pastel yellow building on the Voldersgracht, pastel colored stained glass (we keep our fingers crossed that the sun will just break through) and a pink coffee machine. Do we need to say more? Yes, in to. Because despite this cute setting, there are all cool coffee practices here at Lot. Lot runs the business like a real girl boss, grinds the hip coffee beans from Dublin (Lot's parents live there, this lady knows where she gets her stuff) and makes the tastiest coffee creations. Ginger ale with two espresso shots, for example. Or just a good black cup of coffee.
Paris away from Paris, that is Monastery in Delft. Reminds us a bit of The Hague The neighborhood, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. French sauces all the way. Classic French café/brasserie on the Beestenmarkt in Delft. Boeuf Bourguignon is the name of the game... But you're also in the right place for breakfast, lunch or a nice drink. Or outside at the Beestenmarkt of course. Café and croissant then?
Okay, admittedly, this one has been around for a while. Old-fashioned conviviality Huszar. A little further from the center, on the other side of the water, but those extra steps are worth the bitterballen. Your desired drink is in the right place here. An extensive range of Dutch specialty beer, which is also used for cooking (in cheese fondue, for example!). In addition, a record player with old LPs and plenty of board games available.
Beer with an old-fashioned cheese & sausage board. Party. And then you can also sit outside on the water (or on the water on the boat in the summer)! Home-made burgers and large salads are also on the menu. A children's corner for the little ones and a mini library where you can exchange your book for a new copy when you have finished your story. High tea and high wine are also possible at Huszar. Did we already say party?
Just behind the Markt, on a cute corner - handsome boy by the way who finds a corner that is not cute in Delft - sits Cup. It's almost unnoticeable there on that corner, but for the home-baked brownies and butter cake you really have to pay attention when you come around the corner. Espresso next to it, newspaper, and quietly admire the passing tourists from the window. Cozy coffee spot indeed.
Well, this ain't rocket science… This seems clear to me. Beer, beer, and more beer. Or an eatery and beer garden, as they say themselves. 20 beers on tap, and several beer tasting options. But above all just good food and nice beer, a historic combo. Thus the Delft Brewers. Speaking of historical… while three young, purebred Delluven residents (Delft residents, you understand) wanted to transform this former Greek restaurant into a brewery, they came across a medieval cellar from 1300. Under the guidance of Delft Archeology, everything was carefully tackled and it turned out that the cellar was in the had also served as a brewery in the past. Picture complete! So now you're sitting in that beautifully renovated cellar enjoying your beer. With a Brouwers burger or thick croque madame for lunch, Bavarian pretzels with cheese-beer dip and coarse mustard for drinks and grilled organic ribeye from the Big Green Egg for dinner. And when the weather is nice, in the beer garden covered with lights overlooking the Oude Kerk. Oh so cozy.
Mediterranean aperitivo bar, in a beautiful spot right next to the Grote Kerk. With a terrace on the canal, in the middle of the historic center of Delft. Bee Lakila you will find a decent menu, full of seasonal small dishes with a Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or even Arabic twist. Are you going for manchego with lemon zest? Or burrata with shrimp, orange and fennel? Or rather for all kinds of croquettes with special mayo, hummus with chorizo, octopus and pimento, figs from the oven with goat cheese, pistachio, thyme and balsamic vinegar, or eh, eh, eh, much, much more. And of course you want to know what you're drinking with it? Well, one of the seventeen changing wines that match perfectly with all the dishes on the menu. Cheers!
