Alma do Vale: a boutique stay in the Algarve where you can completely unwind
The final kilometer is unpaved. Your car bumps along a dirt road, the dust swirls up, and somewhere between the oaks and all the greenery, the last sound of the world you just left behind fades away. And then you are there: a small valley near São Marcos da Serra, nestled among the hills, ancient cork oaks, and two boutique rooms that are just right. Welcome to Alma do Vale: a place where you can completely unwind, truly don't have to do anything at all, and which immediately feels like home.
Together, the couple is therefore jacks of all trades: from fantastic dinners and extensive wine knowledge to yoga on the yoga deck in the middle of nature, setting tables as if you were stepping into a wedding scene, and the best tips for beautiful hikes and fine restaurants and beaches for when you do want to get away for a bit.
They make sure you feel at home right away, and you notice that in everything.
Alma do Vale has The Room and The Studio. That is it. No resort, no long corridors, and no breakfast buffet where you fill your plate while standing in line. However, you can book breakfast or dinner, served in an intimate setting in the garden, with home-cooked meals of high quality and pure ingredients.
Both rooms have a private terrace, a king-size bed, air conditioning, and a rain shower. So you can also retreat completely if you feel the need. Moreover, every detail in the rooms has truly been thought of: from Dyson-style hair dryers and styling tools to paintings created especially for Alma do Vale by Beatriz Sanches Cartas Art, with cozy wine and food prints. Also the ceramics of Luclay Ceramics is made especially for them and in the bathroom you will find skincare from AyenThe studio even has a kitchenette, where you can prepare your own meal. Both rooms have a refrigerator, and coffee and tea facilities.
It is precisely those small, personal details that ensure it doesn't feel like just a stay here, but like a place that has truly been thought about with care.
Honestly? Mostly not much. And that is exactly the idea.
There is a swimming pool with sunbeds and shade in the lounge among the vines if you need it. There is a yoga deck where Carlijn gives private or group lessons. There are walking paths that run through the cork oaks, and if you keep walking a little further, you will reach the most beautiful viewpoints over the valley – and you can even see Alma do Vale in the distance. Everywhere you will find shady spots where you can sit down with a book, a good glass of wine, and no agenda whatsoever.
Meals are eaten in the garden in the morning and evening. Local, seasonal, without haste. Niels and Carlijn consciously work with local makers and producers, from wine and vegetables to ceramics. Everything feels so incredibly personal, and that makes the stay so special.
You are right in the heart of the Algarve's interior here, and that feels far away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. It is super easy to get around. If you come by car, you drive out of nature for 10 minutes and can get anywhere again via the main road in no time.
The small village of São Marcos da Serra is a ten-minute drive away. You can reach the larger towns, beaches, and highlights of the Algarve within 45 minutes. So, you can easily explore the south, west, and east coasts from here, and return to the tranquility in the evening.
For those who appreciate nature, love delicious and pure food, enjoy walking, and like to retreat for a while. Alma do Vale is all about the combination of tranquility, vibrancy, and the good life. It is personal and small-scale, and you are right in the middle of Portuguese countryside, yet at the same time, great attention has been paid to the interior, good beds, beautiful linens, towels, ceramics, food, and drink. So you get that high-end comfort and beautiful details of a boutique hotel, but without it becoming stiff or overly luxurious.

Please do keep in mind, however, that there are currently two rooms, which ensures the setting remains small and intimate.

Just good to know: they are deliberately not listed on any booking platform. You email them with your dates, who you are coming with, and what you are looking for, and they take care of the rest. Old-fashioned, but it suits the place. Maximum group size: 6 people (divided between the 2 rooms).
