On Playa de la Olla, with a view of the sea, sits El Cranc: a fixture for almost 25 years. Not a standard beach bar, but a chiringuito which serves tapas and paella at the level of a real restaurant. Order the grilled baby squid and one of the paellas and enjoy the view of the islet of L'Illeta. Book in advance, as it fills up fast.
Built as a balcony over the sea, in the middle of the gardens of the historic Villa Gadea estate. L'Olleta serves top-notch Mediterranean food with fish, shellfish, and rice dishes. Especially in the evening, when the lights come on and the waves gently lap below, this is the perfect spot for a balmy summer night.
Hidden in the narrow streets of the old center you will find Pirate Chef. And what a find. A gastro bar where chef-made tapas are served with taste and creativity. The menu features smoked steak tartare on a homemade arepa and sardine with foie gras and apple. And the best spot? Outside, where you look out over the town. Had enough of classic tapas for a while? Then we say: go!
Close to the church, a little hidden from the hustle and bustle, sits La Capella in an old farmhouseHere, everything revolves around regional classics: from meat dishes to homemade desserts and a terrace with a view of the mountains. The tuna steak is called the best of their lives by many. And the best part? No exorbitant prices, but exceptionally good.
Are you craving fresh fish? Then you must visit Palate It is a delicatessen and restaurant all in one. While enjoying a sangria between courses, you can enjoy people-watching the people strolling along the boulevard. Our favorites? The octopus carpaccio and the homemade crab salad, which we immediately took home for the barbecue.
Is the weather not nice enough to go out onto the terrace? Then make a reservation in the wine room and let yourself be surprised by their extensive wine list.
A little outside the center, in Altea la Vella, lies Il Giardino Nova Bussola: an Italian in a villa with a terrace. The drive is more than worth it. The signature dishesSpaghetti prepared at the table in a huge wheel of Parmesan cheese. Theatrical, but also just really tasty.
