Emma Peijnenburg recommends summer destinations in Europe

Emma Peijnenburg lives in Amsterdam and works as a freelance lifestyle and travel photographer. Her love of daylight, and especially the sun, plays a major role in her work. Wherever she goes, she draws inspiration from her surroundings and captures details that others often overlook. With her camera, she tells the stories of inspiring people and places every day, and we're lucky enough to share some of that inspiration with you. Last summer, she was a guest on our podcast. SUITCASE STORIES, and now that the sun doesn't shine as often anymore, it's time to show her favorite summer destinations in Europe to share. Now we have something to look forward to again..

Cap Ferret

Cap Ferret

Southern France, but a completely different vibe than the Côte d'Azur: Cap FerretA luxurious seaside resort full of oyster ports. That means drinking gallons of rosé and slurping oysters in coves under the pine trees. Preferably with a group of friends, followed by an overnight stay at The Heart of the Ferret, a beautiful villa in nature with seven rooms.

Love for everything that farm-to-table is, even if it doesn't come from the sea, so restaurant and guesthouse Le Doyenné (about 40 km from Paris) is still high on Emma's culinary wish list.

Scandinavia

Scandinavia

In the category ticked off Emma's wishlist: celebrating summer in Scandinavia. First to Gothenburg for a shoot, overnight at Klemmings Ostron, and then by train to Denmark. Take a day trip to Copenhagen and
then sleep in a cabin in the beach village of Tisvildeleje. fingers crossed for nice weather or otherwise enjoy playing games and binge-watching reality TV.

Pantelleria

Pantelleria

Emma discovered the island through her friend Shari Wijnhoud Pantelleria In Italy (known for its excellent wines!), situated between Sicily and Tunisia. She stayed at the beautiful Parco Dei Seisi, though Shari often has good tips on accommodations as well. Together with Ellen Grandjean, she runs Plinius: a platform full of accommodations in Italy. We previously shared their story and tips in our SUITCASE STORIES series.

This is what Shari said about Pantelleria: "When I landed in a small propeller plane at the tiny airport, it felt like I'd stepped back in time fifty years, and that feeling lasted my entire stay. There's very little to do, but that was precisely the charm."

Greece

Greece

First a city trip to Athens, then island hopping. But not before you've spent the night at Shila Athene, A dream boutique hotel within walking distance of the Acropolis. Then on to the islands. A creative retreat at Melissa Andros op Andros is still on the bucket list. Moving on to even more beautiful things, we previously published a list with nice Greek islands.

England

England

Put on your rain boots and go: summer in England. Rent a cottage through Kip Hideways, visit farm-to-table Restaurants like Nancarrowfarm, and eat at The Hidden Hut in Cornwall.
