Go Greece: the nicest Greek islands

Love it Greece. And all the islands around it. Time to list some old and new favorites. go go go Greece: these are the nicest Greek Islands.

Would you rather go to a Spanish island? We also have a list of them!

Crete

Crete

oh Crete. Hersonissos and all inclusive resorts, right? Correct, but there is more. Much more. Crete is large (the largest Greek island) and incredibly versatile. The lively city is located between the rocks and ravines in the northwest of the island Chania. Although the city is popular among tourists and cruise ships regularly dock there, it is not as busy as on the south coast and in Hersonissos. Although… in the neighborhood Hersonissos Piskopiano you won't notice the hustle and bustle again. In and around Rethymnon on the north coast it's somewhat the same story. You can seek out the hustle and bustle, but you can also escape from it just as easily. Crete is therefore the perfect destination for a bit of everything holiday.

Zakynthos

Zakynthos

fair is fair, Zakynthos is not the most beautiful island on this list. In 1953 the island was shaken by an earthquake and many old Venetian-style buildings were lost. Other buildings were built in their place, but in terms of looks they could not match what was there. That does not mean that there are no beautiful buildings, you just have to look for them. Fortunately, the island is nice and clear and relatively small. Partly because of this, it is also recommended with children.

Naxos

Naxos

Naxos is not (yet) very well known, and therefore not (yet) very touristy. That also means that you get a lot for your money. Naxos is the largest island of the Cyclades, the archipelago best known for Mykonos and Santorini. If you do go to Naxos, combine it with a visit to the neighboring island of Paros. The ferry sails several times a day and takes you from one island to the other in 40 minutes.

Santorini

Santorini

Santorini is loved by many (including us), and that is why we recommend that you do not go to this island during the high season. Then it is so busy that part of the charm is lost. So if at all possible, don't do it. Or, to quickly hop on to another island from this list. Santorini got its crescent shape after a volcanic eruption years ago. Although there has not been an eruption in a long time, the island is still volcanically active. A visit to the volcano is recommended if you fancy a hike.

Hydra

Hydra

Hydra, Hydra, Hydra. Ó Hydra. Name Hydra feel free to call it the Cinque Terre of the Greek archipelago, because boy, is this little island (area 64km2) so photogenic. What do we say, photogenic? Pinterest perfect is a better description. Hydra has a small harbor with a very picturesque character. The town - you might say a village - is located against a hill, which makes it even cuter. And very nice: no cars on Hydra, but donkeys. Oh, the peace!

You want to sleep here in the equally picturesque blue and white Orloff Boutique Hotel. Idyllic, elegant, authentic and around the corner from Kountouriotis Mansion – the local landmark. Did we mention that there is also a hidden garden? There is also a hidden garden!

Milos

Milos

Milos is truly a piece of paradise. We love it. All those beautiful beaches, photogenic cliffs, fresh sea food and more. Oh well... There's only one way to find out, ha! Milos is actually the perfect stopover if you want to island hop through beautiful Greece. There is a direct ferry that goes from Athens to Milos. For the seasick among us: the boat makes a few stops, so you can still set foot on shore. Milos has many cliffs, catacombs and more to explore. It Breeze Boutique Hotel for example. Situated on a hill overlooking the fishing village of Pollonia.

Folegrandos

Folegrandos

Folegrandos kills two beautiful, exotic birds with one stone. It works like this: beautiful fly one is the village of Chora. It was named one of the seven most beautiful villages in Europe by CNN in 2013. It's a beautiful fly two Blue Sand Boutique Hotel. A Greek design dream come true. But why would you want to go to Folegrandos? Because of these flies, and because of the beautiful sandy beaches and clear water (snorkeling!). Another plus: Folegrandos consists of steep mountains. As a result, not all sandy beaches are easily accessible (only by boat), and therefore wonderfully quiet.

Sifnos

Sifnos

The island Sifnos is one of the less visited islands of the Greek archipelago. Nevertheless – or precisely because of it – it is worth a holiday. Beautiful beaches, white houses and lots of beautiful nature await you. On this island you will find hotels and villas Verina. Very chic and yet semi-affordable. One hotel overlooks the sea and the other is located among the olive trees. In all cases the rooms are beautiful Mediterranean with a modern twist momentum.
