The reason for our last trip to Biarritz was the discovery of this hotel via Booking.com: an affordable gem just outside Biarritz (15 minutes drive – and that drive takes you through a beautiful French landscape, a gift in itself). Hôtel INDARRA & Spa – Piscine is the name, and you have lovely family rooms without the prices you have to pay in the centre of Biarritz, hear hear! These rooms are beautiful, compact and comfortable: small room (the bed fills almost the entire space - but that also says something about the great bed), large bathroom (with large walk-in shower and a bath, always a gift when you are on a semi-beach holiday with kids), and enough storage space. Kids sleep on a cozy loft (with a gate) and there is a balcony from where you have a wide view over the French fields and the red and white buildings that are characteristic of this area.

Which is more expensive and always fully booked (so be on time!) Hotel de la Plage, although still not the main prize for Biarritz standards. And: then you have something! You will find Hôtel de la Plage on one of the most beautiful beach beaches we know, Plage du Port Vieux, a small cove in the middle of the city (where the water is also a bit less cold: because the bay is small, the water has the chance to warm up a bit in the summer months). Cross the street and you are in the colorful hotel. Beach vibes all over, just like friendly service, a swimming pool (yeah yeah yeah) and the absolute highlight: a really nice roof terrace that you definitely have to go to. if you are not staying here. There is live music on the weekends.

In the category 'value for money' (semi-budget) and top top top location in the middle of the city, this is the best tip you will get: ALFRED HOTEL – Port-Vieux. That time you stumbled upon the aforementioned city beach (so close by Hotel de la Plage) is this hotel a no nonsense hotel where you get just enough, but nothing too much. Very nice design, nothing but nice people and you around the city.

Silhouette Hotel It is the result of a complete renovation of one of Biarritz's oldest buildings, dating back to around 1600, originally built for Etienne de Silhouette, Minister of Finance under Louis XV – his family crest still adorns the main entrance. This charming, family-run boutique hotel is located in the heart of Biarritz, a stone's throw from the Halles market, and together with Maison Silhouette, it offers 27 rooms, including six spacious, high-tech suites. A leafy courtyard, a restaurant, and a 24-hour bar complete the picture. It has been awarded Michelin Selected status for 2025 and is a quiet, refined alternative to the grand hotels by the sea. Okay, in all fairness we have to say that we are not involved ourselves Hotel Saint Julien slept, but we drove there long and it looked so good, that we are pretty sure that this can't go wrong. The location of this three star hotel gets 10 points, the reviews praise the unparalleled sweet and attentive staff and with a price of about 200 euros per room per night it is - we think - a perfect mid-range hotel in the center of Biarritz.

Overlooking the beach of the Port-Vieux and its iconic arcades, it combines Roc Seven Panoramic views, summery styling, a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere, and spacious terraces. The nine rooms and suites, fully renovated in 2025 and reclassified to four stars, all overlook the ocean and the Rocher de la Vierge, featuring warm, natural materials and organic forms. Terracotta floors, ceilings of woven reed, and shades such as terracotta, Basque green, and ecru set the tone, while the rooftop terrace with an outdoor bar and DJ sets is becoming a vibrant meeting place. This villa, Hotel Maison RestaurantBuilt in 1922 by Benjamin Gomez, one of the iconic architects of the Basque Country, this property is located a stone's throw from the Hôtel du Palais, next to the lively Saint-Charles shopping district. A three-minute walk from Miramar beach, this is no ordinary hotel, but more of a holiday home-plus, part of the Les Maisons Fabel collection, offering attentive, personal service. A sculptural staircase immediately sets the tone, as do well-chosen, summery blue, the art, and the designer furniture.

Strictly speaking lies Chiberta House just across the border in Anglet, at the foot of Biarritz. But hey, who cares? Besides, it is also a great tip for a day out when you are staying in the city itself: the estate is not only a beautiful place to stay, but also perfect for lunch and a few holes (so, for golfing). Under the umbrella pines, between golf and ocean, this icon of the Basque coast was given a new lease of life after an extensive renovation. The four-star hotel features 58 rooms and suites with views of the golf course or the park, a restaurant with fire-fire cuisine by Chef Juan Arbelaez, and a 300 m² spa with an indoor pool, sauna, hammam, and treatments from the Swedish brand L:A Bruket. An Andalusian patio forms the centerpiece, with an 18-hole golf course right on the doorstep. 10 points.
