Barts Best of: Bolzano

We already wrote an extensive article about South Tyrol, you can read it here here. But, to be fair, the super fun Bolzano in this region deserves some extra love. Suus, or Susanne van Helden, or Miss @Styling Heroes herself went with her family and looked for the nicest and of course the most tasteful (check her instagram account but once!) addresses for us with the result Barts Best of: Bolzano.

Really, what a nice discovery: Bolzano, also known as Bolzano The city of Bolzano (we think it sounds a bit nicer than Bozen, so we'll just call it Bolzano for now) is located in Northern Italy, in the province of Trentino, which is South Tyrol is. A lot of titles for one area but all you really need to remember is that it is incredibly nice and beautiful here. What a nice surprise this city is! Bolzano is a 2-hour drive from Lake Garda and has its own airport, which is handy. It is an atmospheric university city, and the atmosphere (look & feel) is really a mix between Italy and Austria. Moreover, there is plenty to do! You can go here for aperol but also for apple strufel. It is a chic city, full of beautiful stylish Italians, although the architecture seems more Austrian, with the beautiful mountains of the Dolomites in the background.

Cable car

From Bolzano you can take the cable car up to the Alpe di Siusi. Within half an hour you are at the top, mega fun outing for kids, and you can take beautiful walks here along mountain lakes and the beautiful cliffs of the Dolomites. We took the train for 5 stops and then walked for 45 minutes to the earth pyramids. And no, we had never heard of them either! It is a beautiful natural phenomenon: pyramids of clay formed from old glaciers that have melted. A fun destination to walk to with kids.

Park Hotel Luna Mondschein, Bolzano

In Bolzano we stayed at Parkhotel Luna Mondschein. What a recommendation! Everything here is equally beautiful. The beautiful orange facade with ivy, the swimming pool with palm trees, the nice striped bath towels, the beautiful garden. Even the branding of the menus and other signing is completely in line with the concept. The hotel has a beautiful garden (where kids can play). The food is delicious in one word! We ate a good vitello tonato, a fantastic burrata & basil pistachio risotto and of course we finished with a dessert.

We stayed in Bolzano in the summer and were lucky with lots of sun and the best temperatures, but really: even in bad weather it is more than fine to stay at Parkhotel Luna Mondschein (read: understatement). The interior of the hotel is mega atmospheric and inspiring. Also, various yoga and pilates lessons are given - never boring.

And, the icing on the cake: did you know that Bolzano is also very easy to travel to by train? Yes!

Bolzano

We stayed in Bolzano for 4 days and stayed 3 out of 4 times Parkhotel Luna Mondschein because the garden was so cozy, the kids could play nicely and the food was just very good. The other night we had dinner at the skybar META where young and hip Bolzano gathers to drink and eat. The food was good, atmosphere nice with a view of Piazza Walther and the beautiful Duomo di Bolzano with a unique and graceful roof. The entrance to sky bar Meta is on a small courtyard where there is an enormous Ginkgo tree that Princess Sissi also gave to her uncle Archduke Hendrik.

So Bolzano is really a versatile city, you can shop wonderfully (not even talked about it yet), eat well, there is beautiful architecture, beautiful nature, the impressive mountains of the Dolomites and stylish and tasteful hotels and restaurants. What more could you want? We will definitely come back in the winter; curious about the atmosphere with snow. And, icing on the cake: did you know that Bolzano is also very easy to travel by train? Yes!
