The Campfire Stories micro-festival

In the past we preferred to go to the bigger festivals in busloads, but nowadays you have to go to the smaller ones to feel like you belong. Micro festivals are hipper than hip; small-scale, few people and therefore very exclusive. So too Campfire Stories, where there is only room for a hundred people. Somewhere in the Dutch countryside, the fourth edition is taking place this year. And despite everything (ahem Corona), it is going ahead just fine!

From September 4 to September 6 you can on the estate Roggebotstaete (Flevoland) right on the festival for workshops, inspiring conversations around the campfire, food and especially spending a lot of time in nature. Or rather: July 18th to Sunday July 25th, but then on an estate Slangenburg (Doetinchem) for Summer Camp. All this to return to your normal life more energetic and inspired after a weekend outdoors. Because, as the festival states: today, the pace of life is so fast that we hardly have time to appreciate the little things. Campfire Stories is an antidote to our modern lives: it offers a weekend away from the hustle and bustle and daily stress. With the weekend they want to create positive change and pay tribute to the simple life in nature.

Anyway, when do we choose the festival and when for Summer Camp? In short, Summer Camp is nothing more or less than a week of playing outside and lighting fires for the whole family. During Summer Camp, there are mainly activities and workshops for both children alone (so that the parents have some rest) and for the whole family. While the festival (in September) is 18+, so that a real festival vibe is created.

So, if you prefer being outside rather than inside, then Campfire Stories is the place to be. Storytellers, changemakers and creatives share their stories (talks) and skills (workshops) for a weekend and you can choose which ones you want to attend and which ones you don't. Or go for a nice walk through the forest. Every detail of this micro festival has been thought through, from bringing your own tents, ready-made glamping tents to a complete private farm (Summer Camp). And everything has a link with sustainability and/or a social and ecological impact. In the morning there are yoga sessions and ice bath workshops (the latter does indeed sound very cold) and all meals -with local ingredients and organic wines- are provided by star chefs (only at the festival, Summer Camp has an option to book meals). Or just wake up quietly with a whistling concert of the birds, wandering deer, a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a delicious breakfast. In the evening there is a cozy campfire planned with reading sessions and drinks. Gaze at the stars, the owls flying around or at the screen of the outdoor cinema, nothing is required and doing nothing is mandatory (just kidding of course).
