Cape Town's coolest: The Strangers Club

“Not all those who wander are lost.” A (cheesy) saying that fits us perfectly and is also the motto of The Strangers Club in Cape Town. This coffee bar slash concept store in Green Point came up here previously and now managed to convince even more members of Team Bart. Time for a detailed report!

The Strangers Club Cape Town

The mastermind behind The Strangers Club? Young entrepreneurs Emma Vith and Adam Reily. They were inspired by the clubs of the same name that existed in Panama and La Paz in the early 1900s. Traders and explorers used to agree to exchange stories and reminisce. Today is The Strangers Club the place to be for tourists and locals who are looking for a quiet spot in the middle of the Cape city center.

The Strangers Club is hidden in a cozy courtyard where the sun peeks wonderfully between the treetops. You plop down on a bench in the garden or settle down (with or without a laptop) at one of the tables. The coffee is delicious and from the local Rosetta Roastery. Rumors have it that they won prizes for their coffee and we believe that all too well. Add to that a tasty and healthy breakfast or a well-filled salad and you won't want to leave. Although we recommend that you don't sit still and take a look at the back. The Strangers Club Retail is located there. A concept store with a great selection of local brands. Lorne's earrings and Five O'Clock t-shirts were already on our wish list. And there is also a lot of fun for my husband and the little ones.

Not done enough shopping yet? Then in the same building you will also find Out Of This World, an art gallery with a great collection of African art, fabrics, jewelry and co. Out Of This World has been around since 1972 and also has branches in Camps Bay and V&A Waterfront. But be sure to visit Green Point because that is where you will find the largest collection. Moreover, the combo of The Strangers Club and Out Of This World makes the beautiful old house truly the place where modern and authentic South Africa meet.

Also nice to know? The Strangers Club also includes Local Knowledge. With them you can book surprising tours and activities in and around Cape Town where you get to see the city through the eyes of a local. We haven't used Local Knowledge yet, but the reviews don't lie. Nice for those who like something extra guidance receives during a first visit to Cape Town.
