Perhaps the finest City Spa in Amsterdam: the Susanne Kaufmann wellness at Hotel Pillows at the Park in Amsterdam East

Somehow we still often forget to go to a City Spa... Missed opportunity! What is often a ' on vacationno brainer' is, just popping into the spa for a well-deserved massage or Facial, that always ends up getting forgotten at home. And again: What a shame! Because a City Spa is a mini-vacation in between work, provided you do it right, of course. And doing it right is the case. Susanne Kaufmann City Spa in the Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park in Amsterdam East. A mouthful and worth every letter, this spa in a former university building from 1908 on the edge of Oosterpark, one of the quieter corners of Amsterdam's city centre.

The grandiose building on Oosterpark, which is incredibly beautiful inside and—thanks to the enormous ceilings, subdued use of color, and impressive art—extremely serene, marks the beginning of your wellness experience. One flight of stairs down and you arrive at your small, understated, and delightful hotel spa. The heart of this spa is the sauna, which you rent exclusively for up to four people, complete with a private relaxation area, water, fresh fruit, and homemade sweets. We think this is ideal, and moreover, quite unique: a private wellness area in a city hotel. Additionally, there is a hydromassage bed, where you remain fully clothed while warm water works on your muscles beneath the surface; the effect of a warm bath and a firm massage at the same time—very chill and, once again, quite unique.

Although we were first drawn to the City Spa by the treatments featuring products by Susanne Kaufmann, the Austrian pioneer in holistic skincare from the Bregenzerwald. Her approach relies on alpine plant extracts combined with result-oriented formulas, viewing skin health as part of overall well-being. Those who prefer a classic facial can opt for the custom-made treatments by Dermalogica. Furthermore, there is room for massages (and we can tell you they are truly amazing), manicures, pedicures, and waxing, plus there is a well-equipped gym.
