The nicest addresses in Amsterdam East
I have no idea about you, but every now and then we have to look carefully among all the nice addresses in our already so nice Amsterdam. A good idea, did we think? Just a list per wind direction! That looks so easy.
We already did that for Amsterdam Noord (which turned out to be quite a laundry list), you can read that here. And now we're doing it again for Amsterdam East. Also.
Perfect coffee, perfect cinnamon rolls, perfect (natural) wines, perfect service. Are we fans of the small and very friendly 4850 in Amsterdam East? Really!
A café where you walk in for a glass of wine and are still sitting there three hours later? Yeah, we love that. The Tros The place on Linnaeusstraat in Amsterdam East is just such a spot. Think: a cozy interior, a fine wine list, and food that goes far beyond the standard bitterballen (although thankfully they do have those too). From steak tartare and a good smashburger to surprising dishes with a twist. Whether you come for an extensive lunch, drinks that get out of hand, or a cozy dinner: you’re in the right place at De Tros. And if you haven't finished eating yet? Then you can always head over to neighbor Turbo. Now that’s how we get through the evening.
Sun coming? Then you have to run to the terrace HeadAlthough it is also very pleasant inside. In the spot where De Kop van Oost was located for years, you will now find Tête. New name, new menu, but fortunately still that wonderful view over the water, Brouwerij 't IJ, and the windmill. And that makes us happy.
The menu has changed a bit too. Think French classics with a twist, from vitello tonnato and burrata to gnocchi and a good piece of sirloin steak. No complicated fuss, just good food at a nice price. Whether you drop by for a quick lunch, extended drinks, or a dinner that takes just a little longer than planned. And all this with a view of the water. We say: a great place to hang out for an afternoon (or evening)!
A good cup of coffee, a cozy interior, and an atmosphere that makes you spontaneously want to linger a little longer. Yesss, at Café Susy You’re in exactly the right place on Pretoriusstraat. This lovely neighborhood café is the little sister of YUSU and just as cozy. You can go there for your daily dose of caffeine, a tasty lunch, or simply to sit down and catch up. And on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, the doors stay open in the evening too. So from coffee to drinks, and before you know it, a few hours have passed. Oh well, there are worse things!

Looking for a slightly more upscale dinner, but don't want all the stiff formality? Then is Trump This is the place for you in Amsterdam East. On Schollenbrugstraat, you’ll find this stylish French bistro where they know exactly what good food is. Think: French classics with a surprising twist, exquisite wines, and dishes that clearly show attention to detail. It’s no wonder Troef is listed in the Michelin Guide. And the decor is impressive too: warm colors, an open kitchen, and a wine room that will make any wine lover instantly covetous. Chic, then, but in such a way that you can sit back and enjoy your meal all evening. How about another glass? Healthcare!
Almost every review about the third member of the Hotel-V family starts with 'near the Amstel Station'. That's not a lie, but let's be honest: it's quite far away from everything. Whoever overcomes that small obstacle is in for a treat. First of all, the hotel is beautiful. Wonderful rooms, decent prices and staff who are looking forward to it or will ignore you if you don't feel like it. Huize Frankendael: deep in Amsterdam East, and anyone driving past probably thinks: nah, not today. Or: beautiful place to get married. A missed opportunity! Just do it, walk inside that fantastic building – probably one of the most beautiful in the city – where a family lived not so long ago and where you now find a restaurant. At restaurant MerkelbachLocated in the coach house of this beautiful building, you are in the perfect spot for a cup of coffee, an extensive lunch, or a convivial drink. On the menu? À la carte dishes and plenty of tasty treats to make you want to linger. And we haven't even mentioned the garden yet. Because as soon as the sun comes out, you'll want only one thing: to plop down on that delightful terrace. Also special: in the evenings, Huize Frankendael opens exclusively for groups wishing to enjoy an elaborate dinner in the historic salons or the atmospheric coach house. Now that's what we call a good excuse to visit Oost.

An old bathhouse where you no longer go to take a bath these days, but for good food, tasty drinks, and the occasional big party. Bathhouse The place on Javaplein in Amsterdam East has become a real neighborhood favorite, and we certainly understand why. You start the morning with a coffee, stick around for lunch, and before you know it, you're having drinks. Or dinner. Or both, that's possible too. And anyone who still has energy left afterwards doesn't have to go home anytime soon. From DJ nights and exhibitions to disco bingo: there's always something going on at Badhuis. And if the sun is shining? Then it's naturally straight to the large terrace on Javaplein. Coffee, food, drinks, partying. Just like that, the whole day is taken care of.
With coffee from Rumbaba (local coffee roaster from East) and Monkey chief tea This is and remains one of the finest coffee shops in East, with the tastiest coffee and most delicious treats. No hip stuff, but quality in an uncomplicated atmosphere. With top service, all of whom love making and serving good coffee. Recommended!
Natural wine lovers, this is where you want to be! At Bottleshop On Wibautstraat, it's all about good wine, delicious food, and above all, a whole lot of fun. And no, don't expect a standard wine bar here. The wine list is full of special natural wines, and the kitchen is also quite adventurous. Think surprising dishes with Japanese influences, crispy tacos, and enough tasty treats to fill the whole table. And then there's the atmosphere! A funky interior, a lively buzz, and DJs spinning vinyl on the weekends. You see, that one glass of wine quickly turns into a whole evening. Time to open another bottle, then?
