5x eating, drinking, doing & sleeping in Aarhus – Denmark
Who Aarhus says, will probably be asked: what? Well, let's solve that mystery here. Aarhus is a Danish city 3 hours drive from Hamburg and therefore the perfect stop for a trip to the North. The street scene is why we love Denmark: modern, cozy and cozy. Think of it as a mini version of Copenhagen. With excellent catering. A list of favorite places to eat and drink is inevitable.
Right at number 1: this Nabo Kiosk. You will find Nabo in the south of the city. An idyllic corner building with cozy green and white columns. Upon entering you will find a cozy, warm place with a candy wall (the kiosk). done right. We would almost say stylish. That also explains the kiosk in the name.
You can go to Nabo from early to later. From breakfast to lunch and everything in between. There is coffee and wine. And there are delicious focaccias with generous toppings. There is also a stylish shop at the back of the shop, with accessories for the home. In the summer they unpack and there is a lovely terrace on the square. Nabo is one must visit and certainly fun with your offspring.
The answer to you comfort food cravings but also conviviality + atmosphere. Then you go to Il Locale. You will find this wonderful pizza place in the (dare we say) nicest neighborhood of Aarhus.
Pizzas with the most special (but refined) toppings and the most delicious starters. Burrata, risotto balls, if it is Italian and delicious then you will see it here on the menu.
They also have an entire wall full of special wines. Perfect for a cozy night out in Aarhus. Do you want to go home rolling? Then you book Sofs Hotel, which is practically next to it. Easy does it.
Don't call Capo a restaurant. They want to be called a wine and food bar. And this is what the menu immediately looks like. With classic bar snacks (good almonds, olives, you know the drill).
There are also delicious dishes on the menu to share. Small dishes, but all equally refined. Roasted carrots, stracciatella. Because Capo works with local and seasonal products, the menu changes regularly but guarantees that there is something for you.
If you go in the summer, we are jealous. Here the entire street comes to life because of the pleasant dining on the street side at Capo.
We cannot ignore it, it can be quite difficult to find a small-scale hotel across the national borders. Especially in illogical holiday destinations. Boutique hotel Sofs is clearly a winner in Aarhus. Located in the nicest street in the city (Ganni shop just somersault away). There are fourteen suites and rooms in the old building and three in a newer part at the back of the garden. Here you share a bathroom and toilet with the other rooms.
At Sofs there is always breakfast included with your hotel stay and that is a treat. From yogurt to ginger shot. From delicious cheeses to Scandinavian cinnamon buns.
A place you absolutely cannot miss (and cannot miss) is the art museum in the middle of the city. It is unmissable because, with its round rainbow on top of the building, it literally sticks out and can be seen from almost every neighborhood in the city.
At ARoS you will find modern art and many changing exhibitions from all over the world. So a concept.
The building also has beautiful architecture with Guggenheim-like stairs. For that reason alone it is worth a visit. The rainbow circle at the top of the building is also a great experience for children. And also an amazing view of the city. That's what we call a boost.
