Getaway Deluxe: five unique houses in the most beautiful places in the Netherlands
We are a bit (completely head over heels) over the five houses of the creative, quintessentially Dutch, yet international-looking (because who knew we have such beautiful places in our own country?) from Getaway Deluxe. You won't find more peace, space, and beauty in your own country. For the eye is certainly treated here with houses made of steel, lots of glass, and natural materials: each a picture-perfect scene in its own way. Spacious seating areas, fireplaces and hanging wood stoves, sun loungers on the veranda, projectors in every house, that sort of thing. And, depending on which house you rent, nice extras like a natural swimming pool, lake, sauna, or hot tub. That makes us (and the kids) very happy. Paulien and Arno, the founders of Getaway Deluxe, never sit still, and as of this month (June 2026), they have opened another new addition. Het Nest is now available for booking and, as we have come to expect, just as stunning.
Rugged yet completely zen: The Block stands right by a small lake in the (small) forest of Bergentheim. Made of large concrete blocks, with nothing but glass along the waterfront. What do you see? Water, trees, nothing. Plus point: a hot tub on the terrace, and from the terrace you can step straight into the boat.
Inside, everything is open and split level, with a raised kitchen and a lowered sitting area (hello projector + wood stove). Two bedrooms (for 4 people in total), comfy beds, large rain shower, designer furniture and everywhere a view of greenery. Outside you sit between the bamboo, inside between the good design. Quiet, private, and with everything on it.
Het Nest is so new that the first guests won't arrive until this month (June 2026). And believe us: they are in luck. This newest gem from Getaway is situated on a quiet sandy lane in the middle of the forest, also close to Gorssel. Het Nest is essentially one large glass greenhouse, with a gigantic wooden piece of furniture in the center that forms the heart of the house. Inside, around, and on top of it, you will find everything you need: a kitchen, bedroom, bunk bed, dressing room, shower, toilet, and a conversation pit (so cozy) with a TV lift. Cleverly thought out again, as we have come to expect from Paulien and Arno. In front of the wooden box stand a beautiful quartzite dining table (if you know what I mean), two large leather armchairs, and a wood-burning stove. Thanks to the glass walls, you have views of the forest from every angle. Spotting deer from the breakfast table? We wouldn't rule anything out. And then the icing on the cake. Or actually two: a hot tub and a sauna, on one of the two terraces. You'll find that breakfast table and an outdoor fireplace on the other terrace. Pack your bags and head full throttle towards Gelderland.
l'Orangerie in Gorssel! This accommodation was completed in the summer of 2024, and oh my goodness: this is yet another one of those stunning and unique spots that we at Getaway Deluxe have almost come to expect, yet which still surprises us every time. Anyway, l'Orangerie! Almost entirely made of glass, completely immersing you in the surrounding nature. You can play pool there, there is a huge kitchen, and on both sides of l'Orangerie, you have French doors opening onto the two terraces. A fireplace? They certainly have that here too. A forest pond with a ten-meter swimming lane? You’ll find it right here. How delightful: cooling off in the forest pond and then warming up by the fire pit outside (or by the fireplace inside: anything goes).
At the front, you look out from a large terrace over your own woodland garden with a pond. To the back, you look out over an estate, and if you are lucky, you might see deer walking by. l'Orangerie is located on the edge of Gorssel, and the Hanseatic cities of Deventer and Zutphen are just 10 minutes away. So, you can easily include a trip to one of these cities in your plans!
It is also good to know that the minimum stay and available arrival times vary by house and season. Therefore, always check the calendar of your chosen accommodation for current availability and booking options.
In Epse, you will find this small cottage. Or rather, cottage; it is almost entirely made of glass (even the roof!), so the forest truly comes inside everywhere. You will find this lovely spot in an old patch of forest, right amidst chic villas and a 70s residential area. Surrounded by nature, but with all the convenience and luxury we have come to expect from the accommodations at Getaway Deluxe. There is a kitchen/bar/lounge, a wood-burning stove of course, and this place even has a swimming pond. You are right in the middle of greenery here, but Deventer, Gorssel, and Zutphen are just around the corner and too charming not to stop for lunch or dinner.
The Station is located on the edge of Gorssel, on the same street as l'Orangerie. The Station features, as you have come to expect by now, lots of glass, is open-plan, and has many different levels (lovely, that). split-level). You enter the large kitchen-cum-bar with French doors on both sides opening onto two terraces. On one side, you will find a raised seating area with a fireplace and projector. So cozy, a movie night is a must Pull out some blankets, light the wood stove, and have popcorn on your lap—you get the picture. On the other side, you have a raised seating area (or office, though we prefer not to think about working in this spot). There is room for four people in the two bedrooms. In the garden, there is an unheated natural pond with a 12-meter swimming lane. No stress; if the temperature rises, the water heats up quickly too. And if you dare, you can swim all year round. Afterwards, you can warm up inside under the lovely (and heated) rain shower or by the wood stove, of course.
